The Book of Proverbs, Chapter 14משלי 14

חַכְמ֣וֹת נָ֭שִׁים בָּנְתָ֣ה בֵיתָ֑הּ וְ֝אִוֶּ֗לֶת בְּיָדֶ֥יהָ תֶהֶרְסֶֽנּוּ

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּ֭יָשְׁרוֹ יְרֵ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּנְל֖וֹז דְּרָכָ֣יו בּוֹזֵֽהוּ

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth YHWH: but perverse in his ways despiseth him.

בְּֽפִי אֱ֭וִיל חֹ֣טֶר גַּאֲוָ֑ה וְשִׂפְתֵ֥י חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים תִּשְׁמוּרֵֽם

In the mouth of the foolish a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

בְּאֵ֣ין אֲ֭לָפִים אֵב֣וּס בָּ֑ר וְרָב תְּ֝בוּא֗וֹת בְּכֹ֣חַ שֽׁוֹר

Where no oxen , the crib clean: but much increase by the strength of the ox.

עֵ֣ד אֱ֭מוּנִים לֹ֣א יְכַזֵּ֑ב וְיָפִ֥יחַ כְּ֝זָבִ֗ים עֵ֣ד שָֽׁקֶר

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

בִּקֶּשׁ לֵ֣ץ חָכְמָ֣ה וָאָ֑יִן וְדַ֖עַת לְנָב֣וֹן נָקָֽל

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and not: but knowledge easy to him that understandeth.

לֵ֣ךְ מִ֭נֶּגֶד לְאִ֣ישׁ כְּסִ֑יל וּבַל יָ֝דַ֗עְתָּ שִׂפְתֵי דָֽעַת

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you perceivest not the lips of knowledge.

חָכְמַ֣ת עָ֭רוּם הָבִ֣ין דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וְאִוֶּ֖לֶת כְּסִילִ֣ים מִרְמָֽה

The wisdom of the prudent to understand his way: but the folly of fools deceit.

אֱ֭וִלִים יָלִ֣יץ אָשָׁ֑ם וּבֵ֖ין יְשָׁרִ֣ים רָצֽוֹן

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous favour.

לֵ֗ב י֭וֹדֵעַ מָרַּ֣ת נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וּ֝בְשִׂמְחָת֗וֹ לֹא יִתְעָ֥רַב זָֽר

The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger does not intermeddle with his joy.

בֵּ֣ית רְ֭שָׁעִים יִשָּׁמֵ֑ד וְאֹ֖הֶל יְשָׁרִ֣ים יַפְרִֽיחַ

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

יֵ֤שׁ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יָ֭שָׁר לִפְנֵי אִ֑ישׁ וְ֝אַחֲרִיתָ֗הּ דַּרְכֵי מָֽוֶת

There is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the end thereof the ways of death.

גַּם בִּשְׂח֥וֹק יִכְאַב לֵ֑ב וְאַחֲרִיתָ֖הּ שִׂמְחָ֣ה תוּגָֽה

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth heaviness.

מִדְּרָכָ֣יו יִ֭שְׂבַּע ס֣וּג לֵ֑ב וּ֝מֵעָלָ֗יו אִ֣ישׁ טֽוֹב

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man from himself.

פֶּ֭תִי יַאֲמִ֣ין לְכָל דָּבָ֑ר וְ֝עָר֗וּם יָבִ֥ין לַאֲשֻׁרֽוֹ

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent looketh well to his going.

חָכָ֣ם יָ֭רֵא וְסָ֣ר מֵרָ֑ע וּ֝כְסִ֗יל מִתְעַבֵּ֥ר וּבוֹטֵֽחַ

A wise feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

קְֽצַר אַ֭פַּיִם יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה אִוֶּ֑לֶת וְאִ֥ישׁ מְ֝זִמּ֗וֹת יִשָּׂנֵֽא

soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

נָחֲל֣וּ פְתָאיִ֣ם אִוֶּ֑לֶת וַֽ֝עֲרוּמִ֗ים יַכְתִּ֥רוּ דָֽעַת

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

שַׁח֣וּ רָ֭עִים לִפְנֵ֣י טוֹבִ֑ים וּ֝רְשָׁעִ֗ים עַֽל שַׁעֲרֵ֥י צַדִּֽיק

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

גַּם לְ֭רֵעֵהוּ יִשָּׂ֣נֵא רָ֑שׁ וְאֹהֲבֵ֖י עָשִׁ֣יר רַבִּֽים

The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich many friends.

בָּז לְרֵעֵ֥הוּ חוֹטֵ֑א וּמְחוֹנֵ֖ן עניים עֲנָוִ֣ים אַשְׁרָֽיו

He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that has mercy on the poor, happy he.

הֲֽלוֹא יִ֭תְעוּ חֹ֣רְשֵׁי רָ֑ע וְחֶ֥סֶד וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת חֹ֣רְשֵׁי טֽוֹב

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth to them that devise good.

בְּכָל עֶ֭צֶב יִהְיֶ֣ה מוֹתָ֑ר וּדְבַר שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם אַךְ לְמַחְסֽוֹר

In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips only to penury.

עֲטֶ֣רֶת חֲכָמִ֣ים עָשְׁרָ֑ם אִוֶּ֖לֶת כְּסִילִ֣ים אִוֶּֽלֶת

The crown of the wise their riches: the foolishness of fools folly.

מַצִּ֣יל נְ֭פָשׁוֹת עֵ֣ד אֱמֶ֑ת וְיָפִ֖חַ כְּזָבִ֣ים מִרְמָֽה

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful speaketh lies.

בְּיִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה מִבְטַח עֹ֑ז וּ֝לְבָנָ֗יו יִהְיֶ֥ה מַחְסֶֽה

In the fear of YHWH strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים לָ֝ס֗וּר מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת

The fear of YHWH a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

בְּרָב עָ֥ם הַדְרַת מֶ֑לֶךְ וּבְאֶ֥פֶס לְ֝אֹ֗ם מְחִתַּ֥ת רָזֽוֹן

In the multitude of people the king's honour: but in the want of people the destruction of the prince.

אֶ֣רֶךְ אַ֭פַּיִם רַב תְּבוּנָ֑ה וּקְצַר ר֝֗וּחַ מֵרִ֥ים אִוֶּֽלֶת

slow to wrath of great understanding: but hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

חַיֵּ֣י בְ֭שָׂרִים לֵ֣ב מַרְפֵּ֑א וּרְקַ֖ב עֲצָמ֣וֹת קִנְאָֽה

A sound heart the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

עֹ֣שֵֽׁק דָּ֭ל חֵרֵ֣ף עֹשֵׂ֑הוּ וּ֝מְכַבְּד֗וֹ חֹנֵ֥ן אֶבְיֽוֹן

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him has mercy on the poor.

בְּֽ֭רָעָתוֹ יִדָּחֶ֣ה רָשָׁ֑ע וְחֹסֶ֖ה בְמוֹת֣וֹ צַדִּֽיק

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous has hope in his death.

בְּלֵ֣ב נָ֭בוֹן תָּנ֣וּחַ חָכְמָ֑ה וּבְקֶ֥רֶב כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים תִּוָּדֵֽעַ

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that has understanding: but in the midst of fools is made known.

צְדָקָ֥ה תְרֽוֹמֵֽם גּ֑וֹי וְחֶ֖סֶד לְאֻמִּ֣ים חַטָּֽאת

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin a reproach to any people.

רְֽצוֹן מֶ֭לֶךְ לְעֶ֣בֶד מַשְׂכִּ֑יל וְ֝עֶבְרָת֗וֹ תִּהְיֶ֥ה מֵבִֽישׁ

The king's favour toward a wise servant: but his wrath is him that causeth shame.
