The Book of Nehemiah, Chapter 9נחמיה 9

וּבְיוֹם֩ עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְאַרְבָּעָ֜ה לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַזֶּ֗ה נֶאֶסְפ֤וּ בְנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּצ֣וֹם וּבְשַׂקִּ֔ים וַאֲדָמָ֖ה עֲלֵיהֶֽם

And on the day twenty and four of the month this were gathered the sons of Israel fast sackcloth the ground upon them.

וַיִּבָּֽדְלוּ֙ זֶ֣רַע יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִכֹּ֖ל בְּנֵ֣י נֵכָ֑ר וַיַּעַמְד֗וּ וַיִּתְוַדּוּ֙ עַל חַטֹּ֣אתֵיהֶ֔ם וַעֲוֺנ֖וֹת אֲבֹתֵיהֶֽם

Set apart seed Israel from all the sons of foreign and they stood I will praise on as a sin offering the iniquity of his father.

וַיָּק֨וּמוּ֙ עַל עָמְדָ֔ם וַֽיִּקְרְא֗וּ בְּסֵ֨פֶר תּוֹרַ֧ת יְהוָ֛ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֖ם רְבִעִ֣ית הַיּ֑וֹם וּרְבִעִית֙ מִתְוַדִּ֣ים וּמִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִ֔ים לַיהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם

And they arose on place and they called in the book of the torah of YHWH their gods the fourth today the fourth I will praise and he bowed down to YHWH their gods.

וַיָּ֜קָם עַֽל מַֽעֲלֵ֣ה הַלְוִיִּ֗ם יֵשׁ֨וּעַ וּבָנִ֜י קַדְמִיאֵ֧ל שְׁבַנְיָ֛ה בֻּנִּ֥י שֵׁרֵבְיָ֖ה בָּנִ֣י כְנָ֑נִי וַֽיִּזְעֲקוּ֙ בְּק֣וֹל גָּד֔וֹל אֶל יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם

And he arose on ascent of the Levites Jeshua Bani Kadmiel Shebaniah Bunni and Bani Chenani and they cried out to the voice of great to YHWH their gods.

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ הַלְוִיִּ֡ם יֵשׁ֣וּעַ וְ֠קַדְמִיאֵל בָּנִ֨י חֲשַׁבְנְיָ֜ה שֵׁרֵֽבְיָ֤ה הֽוֹדִיָּה֙ שְׁבַנְיָ֣ה פְתַֽחְיָ֔ה ק֗וּמוּ בָּרֲכוּ֙ אֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם מִן הָעוֹלָ֖ם עַד הָעוֹלָ֑ם וִיבָֽרְכוּ֙ שֵׁ֣ם כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ וּמְרוֹמַ֥ם עַל כָּל בְּרָכָ֖ה וּתְהִלָּֽה

And they said the Levites Jeshua and Bani Hashabniah and Hodijah Shebaniah Pethakiah rise up! bless YHWH your God from perpetuity until perpetuity and they blessed the name of the glory of and tall on all a blessing your praise.

אַתָּה ה֣וּא יְהוָה֮ לְבַדֶּךָ֒ את אַתָּ֣ה עָשִׂ֡יתָ אֶֽת הַשָּׁמַיִם֩ שְׁמֵ֨י הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם וְכָל צְבָאָ֗ם הָאָ֜רֶץ וְכָל אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָלֶ֨יהָ֙ הַיַּמִּים֙ וְכָל אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּהֶ֔ם וְאַתָּ֖ה מְחַיֶּ֣ה אֶת כֻּלָּ֑ם וּצְבָ֥א הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם לְךָ֥ מִשְׁתַּחֲוִֽים

You he YHWH by yourself you are you you have done the heavens the heavens the heavens and all their host the land and all that on it the sea and all that in them and you and he lived all of them of troops the heavens to you bowing down to me.

אַתָּה הוּא֙ יְהוָ֣ה הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר בָּחַ֨רְתָּ֙ בְּאַבְרָ֔ם וְהוֹצֵאת֖וֹ מֵא֣וּר כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים וְשַׂ֥מְתָּ שְּׁמ֖וֹ אַבְרָהָֽם

You he YHWH God that he will choose Abram and he went out from Ur of the Chaldeans and you shall put his name Abraham.

וּמָצָ֣אתָ אֶת לְבָבוֹ֮ נֶאֱמָ֣ן לְפָנֶיךָ֒ וְכָר֨וֹת עִמּ֜וֹ הַבְּרִ֗ית לָתֵ֡ת אֶת אֶרֶץ֩ הַכְּנַעֲנִ֨י הַחִתִּ֜י הָאֱמֹרִ֧י וְהַפְּרִזִּ֛י וְהַיְבוּסִ֥י וְהַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֖י לָתֵ֣ת לְזַרְע֑וֹ וַתָּ֨קֶם֙ אֶת דְּבָרֶ֔יךָ כִּ֥י צַדִּ֖יק אָֽתָּה

And you will find his heart faithful before you and one cut of with him the covenant to give the land of the Canaanite the Hittite the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Jebusite and the Girgashite to give for his offspring and she arose your words for righteous you.

וַתֵּ֛רֶא אֶת עֳנִ֥י אֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם וְאֶת זַעֲקָתָ֥ם שָׁמַ֖עְתָּ עַל יַם סֽוּף

And she saw affliction our fathers in Egypt and outcry of you obeyed on sea of Reeds.

וַ֠תִּתֵּן אֹתֹ֨ת וּמֹֽפְתִ֜ים בְּפַרְעֹ֤ה וּבְכָל עֲבָדָיו֙ וּבְכָל עַ֣ם אַרְצ֔וֹ כִּ֣י יָדַ֔עְתָּ כִּ֥י הֵזִ֖ידוּ עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וַתַּֽעַשׂ לְךָ֥ שֵׁ֖ם כְּהַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה

And she gave the signs and wonders over Pharaoh and with all his servants and with all a people his land for you know for acts presumptuously upon them and she made to you the name of as this day this.

וְהַיָּם֙ בָּקַ֣עְתָּ לִפְנֵיהֶ֔ם וַיַּֽעַבְר֥וּ בְתוֹךְ הַיָּ֖ם בַּיַּבָּשָׁ֑ה וְֽאֶת רֹ֨דְפֵיהֶ֜ם הִשְׁלַ֧כְתָּ בִמְצוֹלֹ֛ת כְּמוֹ אֶ֖בֶן בְּמַ֥יִם עַזִּֽים

And the [Great] Sea and were divided before them and they passed through in the midst of the sea on dry ground and and they pursued and he threw [it] into the depths like a stone in water strong.

וּבְעַמּ֣וּד עָנָ֔ן הִנְחִיתָ֖ם יוֹמָ֑ם וּבְעַמּ֥וּד אֵשׁ֙ לַ֔יְלָה לְהָאִ֣יר לָהֶ֔ם אֶת הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֵֽלְכוּ בָֽהּ

And in a pillar of cloud led him by day and in a pillar of fire by night to give light to them the way that they will go in it.

וְעַ֤ל הַר סִינַי֙ יָרַ֔דְתָּ וְדַבֵּ֥ר עִמָּהֶ֖ם מִשָּׁמָ֑יִם וַתִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֜ם מִשְׁפָּטִ֤ים יְשָׁרִים֙ וְתוֹר֣וֹת אֱמֶ֔ת חֻקִּ֥ים וּמִצְוֺ֖ת טוֹבִֽים

And on Mount Sinai and went down and he shall speak were with them the heavens and she gave to them judgment the upright the torah true statutes the commandments of good.

וְאֶת שַׁבַּ֥ת קָדְשְׁךָ֖ הוֹדַ֣עַתָ לָהֶ֑ם וּמִצְו֤וֹת וְחֻקִּים֙ וְתוֹרָ֔ה צִוִּ֣יתָ לָהֶ֔ם בְּיַ֖ד מֹשֶׁ֥ה עַבְדֶּֽךָ

And a sabbath of your holy I know to them the commandments of the statutes the torah commanded to them by the hand of Moses your servant.

וְ֠לֶחֶם מִשָּׁמַ֜יִם נָתַ֤תָּה לָהֶם֙ לִרְעָבָ֔ם וּמַ֗יִם מִסֶּ֛לַע הוֹצֵ֥אתָ לָהֶ֖ם לִצְמָאָ֑ם וַתֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֗ם לָבוֹא֙ לָרֶ֣שֶׁת אֶת הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָשָׂ֥אתָ אֶת יָדְךָ֖ לָתֵ֥ת לָהֶֽם

And bread the heavens you have given to them the famine and water from the crag you brought out to them with thirst and she said to them to enter to possess the land that carrying your hand to give to them.

וְהֵ֥ם וַאֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ הֵזִ֑ידוּ וַיַּקְשׁוּ֙ אֶת עָרְפָּ֔ם וְלֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ אֶל מִצְוֺתֶֽיךָ

And they his father acts presumptuously it is hard neck and not his hearing to the commandments of.

וַיְמָאֲנ֣וּ לִשְׁמֹ֗עַ וְלֹא זָכְר֤וּ נִפְלְאֹתֶ֨יךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֣יתָ עִמָּהֶ֔ם וַיַּקְשׁוּ֙ אֶת עָרְפָּ֔ם וַיִּתְּנוּ רֹ֛אשׁ לָשׁ֥וּב לְעַבְדֻתָ֖ם בְּמִרְיָ֑ם וְאַתָּה֩ אֱל֨וֹהַּ סְלִיח֜וֹת חַנּ֧וּן וְרַח֛וּם אֶֽרֶךְ אַפַּ֥יִם וְרַב וחסד חֶ֖סֶד וְלֹ֥א עֲזַבְתָּֽם

He refuses to hear and not and you shall remember to fulfill that you have done were with them it is hard neck and they gave the head of to return in rebellion and you God forgiveness gracious compassionate slow of anger/nostrils and numerous kindness kindness and not you have forsaken.

אַ֗ף כִּֽי עָשׂ֤וּ לָהֶם֙ עֵ֣גֶל מַסֵּכָ֔ה וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ זֶ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶעֶלְךָ֖ מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ נֶאָצ֖וֹת גְּדֹלֽוֹת

Also for they did to them a calf of a cast image and they said this your God that and he went up from Egypt and they did and great.

וְאַתָּה֙ בְּרַחֲמֶ֣יךָ הָֽרַבִּ֔ים לֹ֥א עֲזַבְתָּ֖ם בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר אֶת עַמּ֣וּד הֶ֠עָנָן לֹא סָ֨ר מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֤ם בְּיוֹמָם֙ לְהַנְחֹתָ֣ם בְּהַדֶּ֔רֶךְ וְאֶת עַמּ֨וּד הָאֵ֤שׁ בְּלַ֨יְלָה֙ לְהָאִ֣יר לָהֶ֔ם וְאֶת הַדֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יֵֽלְכוּ בָֽהּ

And you compassion the many not you have forsaken in the wilderness pillar of the cloud not he turned aside from them by day led him on the way and pillar of the fire in the night to give light to them and the way that they will go in it.

וְרוּחֲךָ֨ הַטּוֹבָ֔ה נָתַ֖תָּ לְהַשְׂכִּילָ֑ם וּמַנְךָ֙ לֹא מָנַ֣עְתָּ מִפִּיהֶ֔ם וּמַ֛יִם נָתַ֥תָּה לָהֶ֖ם לִצְמָאָֽם

A spirit of the good is giving you may prosper the manna not has withheld you the mouth of and water you have given to them with thirst.

וְאַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָ֛ה כִּלְכַּלְתָּ֥ם בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר לֹ֣א חָסֵ֑רוּ שַׂלְמֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ לֹ֣א בָל֔וּ וְרַגְלֵיהֶ֖ם לֹ֥א בָצֵֽקוּ

And forty years and I will provide in the wilderness not you will lack in his cloak not wore out and their feet not swelled.

וַתִּתֵּ֨ן לָהֶ֤ם מַמְלָכוֹת֙ וַעֲמָמִ֔ים וַֽתַּחְלְקֵ֖ם לְפֵאָ֑ה וַיִּֽירְשׁ֞וּ אֶת אֶ֣רֶץ סִיח֗וֹן וְאֶת אֶ֨רֶץ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן וְאֶת אֶ֖רֶץ ע֥וֹג מֶֽלֶךְ הַבָּשָֽׁן

And she gave to them the kingdoms of the people shall be divided for the side and they took possession of the land of Sihon and the land of king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan.

וּבְנֵיהֶ֣ם הִרְבִּ֔יתָ כְּכֹכְבֵ֖י הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וַתְּבִיאֵם֙ אֶל הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁר אָמַ֥רְתָּ לַאֲבֹתֵיהֶ֖ם לָב֥וֹא לָרָֽשֶׁת

And their children greatly the stars the heavens and they came to the land that have said his father to enter to possess.

וַיָּבֹ֤אוּ הַבָּנִים֙ וַיִּֽירְשׁ֣וּ אֶת הָאָ֔רֶץ וַתַּכְנַ֨ע לִפְנֵיהֶ֜ם אֶת יֹשְׁבֵ֤י הָאָ֨רֶץ֙ הַכְּנַ֣עֲנִ֔ים וַֽתִּתְּנֵ֖ם בְּיָדָ֑ם וְאֶת מַלְכֵיהֶם֙ וְאֶת עַֽמְמֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת בָּהֶ֖ם כִּרְצוֹנָֽם

And they came the young and they took possession of the land and it was subdued before them the inhabitants of the land the Canaanite is giving in their hand and their kings and the people the land to do in them favor.

וַֽיִּלְכְּד֞וּ עָרִ֣ים בְּצֻרוֹת֮ וַאֲדָמָ֣ה שְׁמֵנָה֒ וַיִּֽירְשׁ֡וּ בָּתִּ֣ים מְלֵֽאִים כָּל ט֠וּב בֹּר֨וֹת חֲצוּבִ֜ים כְּרָמִ֧ים וְזֵיתִ֛ים וְעֵ֥ץ מַאֲכָ֖ל לָרֹ֑ב וַיֹּאכְל֤וּ וַֽיִּשְׂבְּעוּ֙ וַיַּשְׁמִ֔ינוּ וַיִּֽתְעַדְּנ֖וּ בְּטוּבְךָ֥ הַגָּדֽוֹל

And they captured cities fortified the ground rich and they took possession of holders full all the good of a pit hewn vineyards and olive trees and the tree of food for multitude and they ate and be satisfied and grew fat and the good of the great.

וַיַּמְר֨וּ וַֽיִּמְרְד֜וּ בָּ֗ךְ וַיַּשְׁלִ֤כוּ אֶת תּוֹרָֽתְךָ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י גַוָּ֔ם וְאֶת נְבִיאֶ֣יךָ הָרָ֔גוּ אֲשֶׁר הֵעִ֥ידוּ בָ֖ם לַהֲשִׁיבָ֣ם אֵלֶ֑יךָ וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ נֶאָצ֖וֹת גְּדוֹלֹֽת

You rebelled to rebel among you and cast him the torah after back and a prophet they killed that I call to witness against them and he returned to you and they did and great.

וַֽתִּתְּנֵם֙ בְּיַ֣ד צָֽרֵיהֶ֔ם וַיָּצֵ֖רוּ לָהֶ֑ם וּבְעֵ֤ת צָֽרָתָם֙ יִצְעֲק֣וּ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְאַתָּה֙ מִשָּׁמַ֣יִם תִּשְׁמָ֔ע וּֽכְרַחֲמֶ֣יךָ הָֽרַבִּ֗ים תִּתֵּ֤ן לָהֶם֙ מֽוֹשִׁיעִ֔ים וְיוֹשִׁיע֖וּם מִיַּ֥ד צָרֵיהֶֽם

Is giving by the hand of narrow and was distressed to them at the time and troubles and he cried out to you and you the heavens you listen compassion the many you shall give to them one to save and they saved them from the hand of narrow.

וּכְנ֣וֹחַ לָהֶ֔ם יָשׁ֕וּבוּ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת רַ֖ע לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וַתַּֽעַזְבֵ֞ם בְּיַ֤ד אֹֽיְבֵיהֶם֙ וַיִּרְדּ֣וּ בָהֶ֔ם וַיָּשׁ֨וּבוּ֙ וַיִּזְעָק֔וּךָ וְאַתָּ֞ה מִשָּׁמַ֧יִם תִּשְׁמַ֛ע וְתַצִּילֵ֥ם כְּֽרַחֲמֶ֖יךָ רַבּ֥וֹת עִתִּֽים

Gives rest to them they will return to do bad before you you forsake by the hand of their enemies and let them rule in them and he returned and they cried out and you the heavens you listen has delivered compassion many at the time.

וַתָּ֨עַד בָּהֶ֜ם לַהֲשִׁיבָ֣ם אֶל תּוֹרָתֶ֗ךָ וְהֵ֨מָּה הֵזִ֜ידוּ וְלֹא שָׁמְע֤וּ לְמִצְוֺתֶ֨יךָ֙ וּבְמִשְׁפָּטֶ֣יךָ חָֽטְאוּ בָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה אָדָ֖ם וְחָיָ֣ה בָהֶ֑ם וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ כָתֵף֙ סוֹרֶ֔רֶת וְעָרְפָּ֥ם הִקְשׁ֖וּ וְלֹ֥א שָׁמֵֽעוּ

I call to witness in them and he returned to the torah now they acts presumptuously and not his hearing the commandments of judgment they sinned against them that he shall do man then she shall live in them and they gave the shoulder of stubborn neck it is hard and not his hearing.

וַתִּמְשֹׁ֤ךְ עֲלֵיהֶם֙ שָׁנִ֣ים רַבּ֔וֹת וַתָּ֨עַד בָּ֧ם בְּרוּחֲךָ֛ בְּיַד נְבִיאֶ֖יךָ וְלֹ֣א הֶאֱזִ֑ינוּ וַֽתִּתְּנֵ֔ם בְּיַ֖ד עַמֵּ֥י הָאֲרָצֹֽת

Has pulled upon them years many I call to witness against them with your wind, by the hand of a prophet and not give ear is giving by the hand of my people the lands.

וּֽבְרַחֲמֶ֧יךָ הָרַבִּ֛ים לֹֽא עֲשִׂיתָ֥ם כָּלָ֖ה וְלֹ֣א עֲזַבְתָּ֑ם כִּ֛י אֵֽל חַנּ֥וּן וְרַח֖וּם אָֽתָּה

Compassion the many not you have done completely and not you have forsaken for God gracious compassionate you.

וְעַתָּ֣ה אֱ֠לֹהֵינוּ הָאֵ֨ל הַגָּד֜וֹל הַגִּבּ֣וֹר וְהַנּוֹרָא֮ שׁוֹמֵ֣ר הַבְּרִ֣ית וְהַחֶסֶד֒ אַל יִמְעַ֣ט לְפָנֶ֡יךָ אֵ֣ת כָּל הַתְּלָאָ֣ה אֲֽשֶׁר מְ֠צָאַתְנוּ לִמְלָכֵ֨ינוּ לְשָׂרֵ֧ינוּ וּלְכֹהֲנֵ֛ינוּ וְלִנְבִיאֵ֥נוּ וְלַאֲבֹתֵ֖ינוּ וּלְכָל עַמֶּ֑ךָ מִימֵי֙ מַלְכֵ֣י אַשּׁ֔וּר עַ֖ד הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה

And now our God the God the great mighty and the terrible/fearsome and you shall keep the covenant and the steadfast love do not is too small before you all the hardship that has found us the king chief of the priest a prophet and to our fathers and to all your people today kings of Asshur until today this.

וְאַתָּ֣ה צַדִּ֔יק עַ֖ל כָּל הַבָּ֣א עָלֵ֑ינוּ כִּֽי אֱמֶ֥ת עָשִׂ֖יתָ וַאֲנַ֥חְנוּ הִרְשָֽׁעְנוּ

And you righteous on all comes upon us for true you have done and we and they condemn.

וְאֶת מְלָכֵ֤ינוּ שָׂרֵ֨ינוּ֙ כֹּהֲנֵ֣ינוּ וַאֲבֹתֵ֔ינוּ לֹ֥א עָשׂ֖וּ תּוֹרָתֶ֑ךָ וְלֹ֤א הִקְשִׁ֨יבוּ֙ אֶל מִצְוֺתֶ֔יךָ וּלְעֵ֣דְוֺתֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הַעִידֹ֖תָ בָּהֶֽם

And the king chief of the priest his father not they did the torah and not to to the commandments of the testimony that I call to witness in them.

וְהֵ֣ם בְּמַלְכוּתָם֩ וּבְטוּבְךָ֨ הָרָ֜ב אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֣תָּ לָהֶ֗ם וּבְאֶ֨רֶץ הָרְחָבָ֧ה וְהַשְּׁמֵנָ֛ה אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֥תָּ לִפְנֵיהֶ֖ם לֹ֣א עֲבָד֑וּךָ וְֽלֹא שָׁ֔בוּ מִמַּֽעַלְלֵיהֶ֖ם הָרָעִֽים

And they his kingdom the good of the many (larger tribe) that is giving to them or on the earth broad of stout that is giving before them not to serve and not return! from their practices the evil.

הִנֵּ֛ה אֲנַ֥חְנוּ הַיּ֖וֹם עֲבָדִ֑ים וְהָאָ֜רֶץ אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֣תָּה לַאֲבֹתֵ֗ינוּ לֶאֱכֹ֤ל אֶת פִּרְיָהּ֙ וְאֶת טוּבָ֔הּ הִנֵּ֛ה אֲנַ֥חְנוּ עֲבָדִ֖ים עָלֶֽיהָ

Behold we today slaves and the land that you have given to our fathers to eat its fruit and the good of behold we slaves on it.

וּתְבוּאָתָ֣הּ מַרְבָּ֗ה לַמְּלָכִ֛ים אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֥תָּה עָלֵ֖ינוּ בְּחַטֹּאותֵ֑ינוּ וְעַ֣ל גְּ֠וִיֹּתֵינוּ מֹשְׁלִ֤ים וּבִבְהֶמְתֵּ֨נוּ֙ כִּרְצוֹנָ֔ם וּבְצָרָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה אֲנָֽחְנוּ

Its yield having many king of that you have given upon us as a sin offering and on our bodies ruling beast favor and troubles great we.
