The Book of Job, Chapter 13איוב 13

הֶן כֹּ֭ל רָאֲתָ֣ה עֵינִ֑י שָֽׁמְעָ֥ה אָ֝זְנִ֗י וַתָּ֥בֶן לָֽהּ

Lo, mine eye has seen all , mine ear has heard and understood it.

כְּֽ֭דַעְתְּכֶם יָדַ֣עְתִּי גַם אָ֑נִי לֹא נֹפֵ֖ל אָנֹכִ֣י מִכֶּֽם

What you know, do I know also: I not inferior to you.

אוּלָ֗ם אֲ֭נִי אֶל שַׁדַּ֣י אֲדַבֵּ֑ר וְהוֹכֵ֖חַ אֶל אֵ֣ל אֶחְפָּֽץ

Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

וְֽאוּלָ֗ם אַתֶּ֥ם טֹֽפְלֵי שָׁ֑קֶר רֹפְאֵ֖י אֱלִ֣ל כֻּלְּכֶֽם

But you forgers of lies, you all physicians of no value.

מִֽי יִ֭תֵּן הַחֲרֵ֣שׁ תַּחֲרִישׁ֑וּן וּתְהִ֖י לָכֶ֣ם לְחָכְמָֽה

O that you would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

שִׁמְעוּ נָ֥א תוֹכַחְתִּ֑י וְרִב֖וֹת שְׂפָתַ֣י הַקְשִֽׁיבוּ

Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

הַ֭לְאֵל תְּדַבְּר֣וּ עַוְלָ֑ה וְ֝ל֗וֹ תְּֽדַבְּר֥וּ רְמִיָּֽה

Will you speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?

הֲפָנָ֥יו תִּשָּׂא֑וּן אִם לָאֵ֥ל תְּרִיבֽוּן

Will you accept his person? will you contend for God?

הֲ֭טוֹב כִּֽי יַחְקֹ֣ר אֶתְכֶ֑ם אִם כְּהָתֵ֥ל בֶּ֝אֱנ֗וֹשׁ תְּהָתֵ֥לּוּ בֽוֹ

Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do you mock him?

הוֹכֵ֣חַ יוֹכִ֣יחַ אֶתְכֶ֑ם אִם בַּ֝סֵּ֗תֶר פָּנִ֥ים תִּשָּׂאֽוּן

He will surely reprove you, if you do secretly accept persons.

הֲלֹ֣א שְׂ֭אֵתוֹ תְּבַעֵ֣ת אֶתְכֶ֑ם וּ֝פַחְדּ֗וֹ יִפֹּ֥ל עֲלֵיכֶֽם

Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?

זִֽ֭כְרֹנֵיכֶם מִשְׁלֵי אֵ֑פֶר לְגַבֵּי חֹ֝֗מֶר גַּבֵּיכֶֽם

Your remembrances like to ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.

הַחֲרִ֣ישׁוּ מִ֭מֶּנִּי וַאֲדַבְּרָה אָ֑נִי וְיַעֲבֹ֖ר עָלַ֣י מָֽה

Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what .

עַל מָ֤ה אֶשָּׂ֣א בְשָׂרִ֣י בְשִׁנָּ֑י וְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י אָשִׂ֥ים בְּכַפִּֽי

Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?

הֵ֣ן יִ֭קְטְלֵנִי לא ל֣וֹ אֲיַחֵ֑ל אַךְ דְּ֝רָכַ֗י אֶל פָּנָ֥יו אוֹכִֽיחַ

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

גַּם הוּא לִ֥י לִֽישׁוּעָ֑ה כִּי לֹ֥א לְ֝פָנָ֗יו חָנֵ֥ף יָבֽוֹא

He also my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.

שִׁמְע֣וּ שָׁ֭מוֹעַ מִלָּתִ֑י וְ֝אַֽחֲוָתִ֗י בְּאָזְנֵיכֶֽם

Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.

הִנֵּה נָ֭א עָרַ֣כְתִּי מִשְׁפָּ֑ט יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי כִּֽי אֲנִ֥י אֶצְדָּֽק

Behold now, I have ordered cause; I know that I shall be justified.

מִי ה֭וּא יָרִ֣יב עִמָּדִ֑י כִּֽי עַתָּ֖ה אַחֲרִ֣ישׁ וְאֶגְוָֽע

Who he will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.

אַךְ שְׁ֭תַּיִם אַל תַּ֣עַשׂ עִמָּדִ֑י אָ֥ז מִ֝פָּנֶ֗יךָ לֹ֣א אֶסָּתֵֽר

Only do not two to me: then will I not hide myself from you.

כַּ֭פְּךָ מֵעָלַ֣י הַרְחַ֑ק וְ֝אֵ֥מָתְךָ֗ אַֽל תְּבַעֲתַֽנִּי

Withdraw your hand far from me: and let not your dread make me afraid.

וּ֭קְרָא וְאָנֹכִ֣י אֶֽעֱנֶ֑ה אֽוֹ אֲ֝דַבֵּ֗ר וַהֲשִׁיבֵֽנִי

Then call you, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer you me.

כַּמָּ֣ה לִ֭י עֲוֺנ֣וֹת וְחַטָּא֑וֹת פִּֽשְׁעִ֥י וְ֝חַטָּאתִ֗י הֹדִיעֵֽנִי

How many mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.

לָֽמָּה פָנֶ֥יךָ תַסְתִּ֑יר וְתַחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי לְאוֹיֵ֣ב לָֽךְ

Wherefore hidest you your face, and holdest me for your enemy?

הֶעָלֶ֣ה נִדָּ֣ף תַּעֲר֑וֹץ וְאֶת קַ֖שׁ יָבֵ֣שׁ תִּרְדֹּֽף

Wilt you break a leaf driven to and fro? and will you pursue the dry stubble?

כִּֽי תִכְתֹּ֣ב עָלַ֣י מְרֹר֑וֹת וְ֝תוֹרִישֵׁ֗נִי עֲוֺנ֥וֹת נְעוּרָֽי

For you writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.

וְתָ֘שֵׂ֤ם בַּסַּ֨ד רַגְלַ֗י וְתִשְׁמ֥וֹר כָּל אָרְחוֹתָ֑י עַל שָׁרְשֵׁ֥י רַ֝גְלַ֗י תִּתְחַקֶּֽה

You puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly to all my paths; you settest a print upon the heels of my feet.

וְ֭הוּא כְּרָקָ֣ב יִבְלֶ֑ה כְּ֝בֶ֗גֶד אֲכָ֣לוֹ עָֽשׁ

And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.
