The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 25ירמיהו 25

הַדָּבָ֞ר אֲשֶׁר הָיָ֤ה עַֽל יִרְמְיָ֨הוּ֙ עַל כָּל עַ֣ם יְהוּדָ֔ה בַּשָּׁנָה֙ הָֽרְבִעִ֔ית לִיהוֹיָקִ֥ים בֶּן יֹאשִׁיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה הִ֗יא הַשָּׁנָה֙ הָרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ית לִנְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֖ר מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶֽל

The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;

אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֜ר יִרְמְיָ֤הוּ הַנָּבִיא֙ עַל כָּל עַ֣ם יְהוּדָ֔ה וְאֶ֛ל כָּל יֹשְׁבֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר

The which Jeremiah the prophet spake to all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,

מִן שְׁלֹ֣שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֡ה לְיֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּ בֶן אָמוֹן֩ מֶ֨לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֜ה וְעַ֣ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֗ה זֶ֚ה שָׁלֹ֤שׁ וְעֶשְׂרִים֙ שָׁנָ֔ה הָיָ֥ה דְבַר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י וָאֲדַבֵּ֧ר אֲלֵיכֶ֛ם אַשְׁכֵּ֥ים וְדַבֵּ֖ר וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּֽם

From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even to this day, that the three and twentieth year, the word of YHWH has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising early and speaking; but you have not hearkened.

וְשָׁלַח֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֲלֵיכֶ֜ם אֶֽת כָּל עֲבָדָ֧יו הַנְּבִאִ֛ים הַשְׁכֵּ֥ם וְשָׁלֹ֖חַ וְלֹ֣א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֑ם וְלֹֽא הִטִּיתֶ֥ם אֶֽת אָזְנְכֶ֖ם לִשְׁמֹֽעַ

And YHWH has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending ; but you have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.

לֵאמֹ֗ר שֽׁוּבוּ נָ֞א אִ֣ישׁ מִדַּרְכּ֤וֹ הָֽרָעָה֙ וּמֵרֹ֣עַ מַעַלְלֵיכֶ֔ם וּשְׁבוּ֙ עַל הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֧ן יְהוָ֛ה לָכֶ֖ם וְלַאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם לְמִן עוֹלָ֖ם וְעַד עוֹלָֽם

They said, Turn you again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that YHWH has given to you and to your fathers for ever and ever:

וְאַל תֵּלְכ֗וּ אַֽחֲרֵי֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים לְעָבְדָ֖ם וּלְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֣ת לָהֶ֑ם וְלֹֽא תַכְעִ֤יסוּ אוֹתִי֙ בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יְדֵיכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֥א אָרַ֖ע לָכֶֽם

And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.

וְלֹֽא שְׁמַעְתֶּ֥ם אֵלַ֖י נְאֻם יְהוָ֑ה לְמַ֧עַן הכעסוני הַכְעִיסֵ֛נִי בְּמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יְדֵיכֶ֖ם לְרַ֥ע לָכֶֽם

Yet you have not hearkened to me, says YHWH; that you might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.

לָכֵ֕ן כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֖ר יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת יַ֕עַן אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם אֶת דְּבָרָֽי

Therefore thus says YHWH of hosts; Because you have not heard my words,

הִנְנִ֣י שֹׁלֵ֡חַ וְלָקַחְתִּי֩ אֶת כָּל מִשְׁפְּח֨וֹת צָפ֜וֹן נְאֻם יְהוָ֗ה וְאֶל נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֣ר מֶֽלֶךְ בָּבֶל֮ עַבְדִּי֒ וַהֲבִ֨אֹתִ֜ים עַל הָאָ֤רֶץ הַזֹּאת֙ וְעַל יֹ֣שְׁבֶ֔יהָ וְעַ֛ל כָּל הַגּוֹיִ֥ם הָאֵ֖לֶּה סָבִ֑יב וְהַ֣חֲרַמְתִּ֔ים וְשַׂמְתִּים֙ לְשַׁמָּ֣ה וְלִשְׁרֵקָ֔ה וּלְחָרְב֖וֹת עוֹלָֽם

Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, says YHWH, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.

וְהַאֲבַדְתִּ֣י מֵהֶ֗ם ק֤וֹל שָׂשׂוֹן֙ וְק֣וֹל שִׂמְחָ֔ה ק֥וֹל חָתָ֖ן וְק֣וֹל כַּלָּ֑ה ק֥וֹל רֵחַ֖יִם וְא֥וֹר נֵֽר

Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.

וְהָֽיְתָה֙ כָּל הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את לְחָרְבָּ֖ה לְשַׁמָּ֑ה וְעָ֨בְד֜וּ הַגּוֹיִ֥ם הָאֵ֛לֶּה אֶת מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל שִׁבְעִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה

And this whole land shall be a desolation, an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

וְהָיָ֣ה כִמְלֹ֣אות שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֡ה אֶפְקֹ֣ד עַל מֶֽלֶךְ בָּבֶל֩ וְעַל הַגּ֨וֹי הַה֧וּא נְאֻם יְהוָ֛ה אֶת עֲוֺנָ֖ם וְעַל אֶ֣רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּ֑ים וְשַׂמְתִּ֥י אֹת֖וֹ לְשִֽׁמְמ֥וֹת עוֹלָֽם

And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, says YHWH, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.

והבאיתי וְהֵֽבֵאתִי֙ עַל הָאָ֣רֶץ הַהִ֔יא אֶת כָּל דְּבָרַ֖י אֲשֶׁר דִּבַּ֣רְתִּי עָלֶ֑יהָ אֵ֤ת כָּל הַכָּתוּב֙ בַּסֵּ֣פֶר הַזֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁר נִבָּ֥א יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ עַל כָּל הַגּוֹיִֽם

And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations.

כִּ֣י עָֽבְדוּ בָ֤ם גַּם הֵ֨מָּה֙ גּוֹיִ֣ם רַבִּ֔ים וּמְלָכִ֖ים גְּדוֹלִ֑ים וְשִׁלַּמְתִּ֥י לָהֶ֛ם כְּפָעֳלָ֖ם וּכְמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה יְדֵיהֶֽם

For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.

כִּ֣י כֹה֩ אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֵלַ֔י קַ֠ח אֶת כּ֨וֹס הַיַּ֧יִן הַחֵמָ֛ה הַזֹּ֖את מִיָּדִ֑י וְהִשְׁקִיתָ֤ה אֹתוֹ֙ אֶת כָּל הַגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֧ר אָנֹכִ֛י שֹׁלֵ֥חַ אוֹתְךָ֖ אֲלֵיהֶֽם

For thus says YHWH God of Israel to me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send you, to drink it.

וְשָׁת֕וּ וְהִֽתְגֹּֽעֲשׁ֖וּ וְהִתְהֹלָ֑לוּ מִפְּנֵ֣י הַחֶ֔רֶב אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י שֹׁלֵ֖חַ בֵּינֹתָֽם

And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.

וָאֶקַּ֥ח אֶת הַכּ֖וֹס מִיַּ֣ד יְהוָ֑ה וָֽאַשְׁקֶה֙ אֶת כָּל הַגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁר שְׁלָחַ֥נִי יְהוָ֖ה אֲלֵיהֶֽם

Then took I the cup at YHWH's hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom YHWH had sent me:

אֶת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ וְאֶת עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וְאֶת מְלָכֶ֖יהָ אֶת שָׂרֶ֑יהָ לָתֵ֨ת אֹתָ֜ם לְחָרְבָּ֧ה לְשַׁמָּ֛ה לִשְׁרֵקָ֥ה וְלִקְלָלָ֖ה כַּיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה

, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as this day;

אֶת פַּרְעֹ֧ה מֶֽלֶךְ מִצְרַ֛יִם וְאֶת עֲבָדָ֥יו וְאֶת שָׂרָ֖יו וְאֶת כָּל עַמּֽוֹ

Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;

וְאֵת֙ כָּל הָעֶ֔רֶב וְאֵ֕ת כָּל מַלְכֵ֖י אֶ֣רֶץ הָע֑וּץ וְאֵ֗ת כָּל מַלְכֵי֙ אֶ֣רֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְאֶת אַשְׁקְל֤וֹן וְאֶת עַזָּה֙ וְאֶת עֶקְר֔וֹן וְאֵ֖ת שְׁאֵרִ֥ית אַשְׁדּֽוֹד

And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,

אֶת אֱד֥וֹם וְאֶת מוֹאָ֖ב וְאֶת בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן

Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,

וְאֵת֙ כָּל מַלְכֵי צֹ֔ר וְאֵ֖ת כָּל מַלְכֵ֣י צִיד֑וֹן וְאֵת֙ מַלְכֵ֣י הָאִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּעֵ֥בֶר הַיָּֽם

And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which beyond the sea,

וְאֶת דְּדָ֤ן וְאֶת תֵּימָא֙ וְאֶת בּ֔וּז וְאֵ֖ת כָּל קְצוּצֵ֥י פֵאָֽה

Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all in the utmost corners,

וְאֵ֖ת כָּל מַלְכֵ֣י עֲרָ֑ב וְאֵת֙ כָּל מַלְכֵ֣י הָעֶ֔רֶב הַשֹּׁכְנִ֖ים בַּמִּדְבָּֽר

And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,

וְאֵ֣ת כָּל מַלְכֵ֣י זִמְרִ֗י וְאֵת֙ כָּל מַלְכֵ֣י עֵילָ֔ם וְאֵ֖ת כָּל מַלְכֵ֥י מָדָֽי

And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,

וְאֵ֣ת כָּל מַלְכֵ֣י הַצָּפ֗וֹן הַקְּרֹבִ֤ים וְהָֽרְחֹקִים֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶל אָחִ֔יו וְאֵת֙ כָּל הַמַּמְלְכ֣וֹת הָאָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל פְּנֵ֣י הָאֲדָמָ֑ה וּמֶ֥לֶךְ שֵׁשַׁ֖ךְ יִשְׁתֶּ֥ה אַחֲרֵיהֶֽם

And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֡ם כֹּֽה אָמַר֩ יְהוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל שְׁת֤וּ וְשִׁכְרוּ֙ וּקְי֔וּ וְנִפְל֖וּ וְלֹ֣א תָק֑וּמוּ מִפְּנֵ֣י הַחֶ֔רֶב אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י שֹׁלֵ֖חַ בֵּינֵיכֶֽם

Therefore you shall say to them, Thus says YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink you, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.

וְהָיָ֗ה כִּ֧י יְמָאֲנ֛וּ לָקַֽחַת הַכּ֥וֹס מִיָּדְךָ֖ לִשְׁתּ֑וֹת וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שָׁת֥וֹ תִשְׁתּֽוּ

And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then shall you say to them, Thus says YHWH of hosts; You shall certainly drink.

כִּי֩ הִנֵּ֨ה בָעִ֜יר אֲשֶׁ֧ר נִֽקְרָא שְׁמִ֣י עָלֶ֗יהָ אָֽנֹכִי֙ מֵחֵ֣ל לְהָרַ֔ע וְאַתֶּ֖ם הִנָּקֵ֣ה תִנָּק֑וּ לֹ֣א תִנָּק֔וּ כִּ֣י חֶ֗רֶב אֲנִ֤י קֹרֵא֙ עַל כָּל יֹשְׁבֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ נְאֻ֖ם יְהוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת

For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should you be utterly unpunished? You shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, says YHWH of hosts.

וְאַתָּה֙ תִּנָּבֵ֣א אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֥ת כָּל הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם יְהוָ֞ה מִמָּר֤וֹם יִשְׁאָג֙ וּמִמְּע֤וֹן קָדְשׁוֹ֙ יִתֵּ֣ן קוֹל֔וֹ שָׁאֹ֤ג יִשְׁאַג֙ עַל נָוֵ֔הוּ הֵידָד֙ כְּדֹרְכִ֣ים יַֽעֲנֶ֔ה אֶ֥ל כָּל יֹשְׁבֵ֖י הָאָֽרֶץ

Therefore prophesy you against them all these words, and say to them, YHWH shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread , against all the inhabitants of the earth.

בָּ֤א שָׁאוֹן֙ עַד קְצֵ֣ה הָאָ֔רֶץ כִּ֣י רִ֤יב לַֽיהוָה֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם נִשְׁפָּ֥ט ה֖וּא לְכָל בָּשָׂ֑ר הָרְשָׁעִ֛ים נְתָנָ֥ם לַחֶ֖רֶב נְאֻם יְהוָֽה

A noise shall come to the ends of the earth; for YHWH has a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them wicked to the sword, says YHWH.

כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הִנֵּ֥ה רָעָ֛ה יֹצֵ֖את מִגּ֣וֹי אֶל גּ֑וֹי וְסַ֣עַר גָּד֔וֹל יֵע֖וֹר מִיַּרְכְּתֵי אָֽרֶץ

Thus says YHWH of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.

וְהָי֞וּ חַֽלְלֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא מִקְצֵ֥ה הָאָ֖רֶץ וְעַד קְצֵ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ לֹ֣א יִסָּפְד֗וּ וְלֹ֤א יֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִקָּבֵ֔רוּ לְדֹ֛מֶן עַל פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָ֖ה יִֽהְיֽוּ

And the slain of YHWH shall be at that day from end of the earth even to the end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

הֵילִ֨ילוּ הָרֹעִ֜ים וְזַעֲק֗וּ וְהִֽתְפַּלְּשׁוּ֙ אַדִּירֵ֣י הַצֹּ֔אן כִּֽי מָלְא֥וּ יְמֵיכֶ֖ם לִטְב֑וֹחַ וּתְפוֹצ֣וֹתִיכֶ֔ם וּנְפַלְתֶּ֖ם כִּכְלִ֥י חֶמְדָּֽה

Howl, you shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves , you principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and you shall fall like a pleasant vessel.

וְאָבַ֥ד מָנ֖וֹס מִן הָֽרֹעִ֑ים וּפְלֵיטָ֖ה מֵאַדִּירֵ֥י הַצֹּֽאן

And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.

ק֚וֹל צַעֲקַ֣ת הָֽרֹעִ֔ים וִֽילְלַ֖ת אַדִּירֵ֣י הַצֹּ֑אן כִּֽי שֹׁדֵ֥ד יְהוָ֖ה אֶת מַרְעִיתָֽם

A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, : for YHWH has spoiled their pasture.

וְנָדַ֖מּוּ נְא֣וֹת הַשָּׁל֑וֹם מִפְּנֵ֖י חֲר֥וֹן אַף יְהוָֽה

And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of YHWH.

עָזַ֥ב כַּכְּפִ֖יר סֻכּ֑וֹ כִּֽי הָיְתָ֤ה אַרְצָם֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה מִפְּנֵי֙ חֲר֣וֹן הַיּוֹנָ֔ה וּמִפְּנֵ֖י חֲר֥וֹן אַפּֽוֹ

He has forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
