The Book of Ezekiel, Chapter 16יחזקאל 16

וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר

Again the word of YHWH came to me, saying,

בֶּן אָדָ֕ם הוֹדַ֥ע אֶת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם אֶת תּוֹעֲבֹתֶֽיהָ

Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations,

וְאָמַרְתָּ֞ כֹּה אָמַ֨ר אֲדֹנָ֤י יְהוִה֙ לִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם מְכֹרֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ וּמֹ֣לְדֹתַ֔יִךְ מֵאֶ֖רֶץ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֑י אָבִ֥יךְ הָאֱמֹרִ֖י וְאִמֵּ֥ךְ חִתִּֽית

And say, Thus says YHWH YHWH to Jerusalem; Your birth and your nativity of the land of Canaan; your father an Amorite, and your mother an Hittite.

וּמוֹלְדוֹתַ֗יִךְ בְּי֨וֹם הוּלֶּ֤דֶת אֹתָךְ֙ לֹֽא כָרַּ֣ת שָׁרֵּ֔ךְ וּבְמַ֥יִם לֹֽא רֻחַ֖צְתְּ לְמִשְׁעִ֑י וְהָמְלֵ֨חַ֙ לֹ֣א הֻמְלַ֔חַתְּ וְהָחְתֵּ֖ל לֹ֥א חֻתָּֽלְתְּ

And your nativity, in the day you wast born your navel was not cut, neither wast you washed in water to supple ; you wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all.

לֹא חָ֨סָה עָלַ֜יִךְ עַ֗יִן לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לָ֛ךְ אַחַ֥ת מֵאֵ֖לֶּה לְחֻמְלָ֣ה עָלָ֑יִךְ וַֽתֻּשְׁלְכִ֞י אֶל פְּנֵ֤י הַשָּׂדֶה֙ בְּגֹ֣עַל נַפְשֵׁ֔ךְ בְּי֖וֹם הֻלֶּ֥דֶת אֹתָֽךְ

None eye pitied you, to do any of these to you, to have compassion upon you; but you wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of your person, in the day that you wast born.

וָאֶעֱבֹ֤ר עָלַ֨יִךְ֙ וָֽאֶרְאֵ֔ךְ מִתְבּוֹסֶ֖סֶת בְּדָמָ֑יִךְ וָאֹ֤מַר לָךְ֙ בְּדָמַ֣יִךְ חֲיִ֔י וָאֹ֥מַר לָ֖ךְ בְּדָמַ֥יִךְ חֲיִֽי

And when I passed by you, and saw you polluted in your own blood, I said to you in your blood, Live; yea, I said to you in your blood, Live.

רְבָבָ֗ה כְּצֶ֤מַח הַשָּׂדֶה֙ נְתַתִּ֔יךְ וַתִּרְבִּי֙ וַֽתִּגְדְּלִ֔י וַתָּבֹ֖אִי בַּעֲדִ֣י עֲדָיִ֑ים שָׁדַ֤יִם נָכֹ֨נוּ֙ וּשְׂעָרֵ֣ךְ צִמֵּ֔חַ וְאַ֖תְּ עֵרֹ֥ם וְעֶרְיָֽה

I have caused you to multiply as the bud of the field, and you have increased and waxen great, and you are come to excellent ornaments: breasts are fashioned, and your hair is grown, whereas you naked and bare.

וָאֶעֱבֹ֨ר עָלַ֜יִךְ וָאֶרְאֵ֗ךְ וְהִנֵּ֤ה עִתֵּךְ֙ עֵ֣ת דֹּדִ֔ים וָאֶפְרֹ֤שׂ כְּנָפִי֙ עָלַ֔יִךְ וָאֲכַסֶּ֖ה עֶרְוָתֵ֑ךְ וָאֶשָּׁ֣בַֽע לָ֠ךְ וָאָב֨וֹא בִבְרִ֜ית אֹתָ֗ךְ נְאֻ֛ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִ֖ה וַתִּ֥הְיִי לִֽי

Now when I passed by you, and looked upon you, behold, your time the time of love; and I spread my skirt over you, and covered your nakedness: yea, I sware to you, and entered into a covenant with you, says YHWH YHWH, and you becamest mine.

וָאֶרְחָצֵ֣ךְ בַּמַּ֔יִם וָאֶשְׁטֹ֥ף דָּמַ֖יִךְ מֵֽעָלָ֑יִךְ וָאֲסֻכֵ֖ךְ בַּשָּֽׁמֶן

Then washed I you with water; yea, I throughly washed away your blood from you, and I anointed you with oil.

וָאַלְבִּישֵׁ֣ךְ רִקְמָ֔ה וָאֶנְעֲלֵ֖ךְ תָּ֑חַשׁ וָאֶחְבְּשֵׁ֣ךְ בַּשֵּׁ֔שׁ וַאֲכַסֵּ֖ךְ מֶֽשִׁי

I clothed you also with broidered work, and shod you with badgers' skin, and I girded you about with fine linen, and I covered you with silk.

וָאֶעְדֵּ֖ךְ עֶ֑דִי וָאֶתְּנָ֤ה צְמִידִים֙ עַל יָדַ֔יִךְ וְרָבִ֖יד עַל גְּרוֹנֵֽךְ

I decked you also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon your hands, and a chain on your neck.

וָאֶתֵּ֥ן נֶ֨זֶם֙ עַל אַפֵּ֔ךְ וַעֲגִילִ֖ים עַל אָזְנָ֑יִךְ וַעֲטֶ֥רֶת תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת בְּרֹאשֵֽׁךְ

And I put a jewel on your forehead, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown upon your head.

וַתַּעְדִּ֞י זָהָ֣ב וָכֶ֗סֶף וּמַלְבּוּשֵׁךְ֙ ששי שֵׁ֤שׁ וָמֶ֨שִׁי֙ וְרִקְמָ֔ה סֹ֧לֶת וּדְבַ֛שׁ וָשֶׁ֖מֶן אכלתי אָכָ֑לְתְּ וַתִּ֨יפִי֙ בִּמְאֹ֣ד מְאֹ֔ד וַֽתִּצְלְחִ֖י לִמְלוּכָֽה

Thus wast you decked with gold and silver; and your raiment fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; you didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and you wast exceeding beautiful, and you didst prosper into a kingdom.

וַיֵּ֨צֵא לָ֥ךְ שֵׁ֛ם בַּגּוֹיִ֖ם בְּיָפְיֵ֑ךְ כִּ֣י כָּלִ֣יל ה֗וּא בַּֽהֲדָרִי֙ אֲשֶׁר שַׂ֣מְתִּי עָלַ֔יִךְ נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה

And your renown went forth among the heathen for your beauty: for it perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon you, says YHWH YHWH.

וַתִּבְטְחִ֣י בְיָפְיֵ֔ךְ וַתִּזְנִ֖י עַל שְׁמֵ֑ךְ וַתִּשְׁפְּכִ֧י אֶת תַּזְנוּתַ֛יִךְ עַל כָּל עוֹבֵ֖ר לוֹ יֶֽהִי

But you didst trust in your own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of your renown, and pouredst out your fornications on every one that passed by; his it was.

וַתִּקְחִ֣י מִבְּגָדַ֗יִךְ וַתַּֽעֲשִׂי לָךְ֙ בָּמ֣וֹת טְלֻא֔וֹת וַתִּזְנִ֖י עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם לֹ֥א בָא֖וֹת וְלֹ֥א יִהְיֶֽה

And of your garments you didst take, and deckedst your high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: shall not come, neither shall it be .

וַתִּקְחִ֞י כְּלֵ֣י תִפְאַרְתֵּ֗ךְ מִזְּהָבִ֤י וּמִכַּסְפִּי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתַ֣תִּי לָ֔ךְ וַתַּעֲשִׂי לָ֖ךְ צַלְמֵ֣י זָכָ֑ר וַתִּזְנִי בָֽם

You have also taken your fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them,

וַתִּקְחִ֛י אֶת בִּגְדֵ֥י רִקְמָתֵ֖ךְ וַתְּכַסִּ֑ים וְשַׁמְנִי֙ וּקְטָרְתִּ֔י נתתי נָתַ֖תְּ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם

And tookest your broidered garments, and coveredst them: and you have set mine oil and mine incense before them.

וְלַחְמִי֩ אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֨תִּי לָ֜ךְ סֹ֣לֶת וָשֶׁ֤מֶן וּדְבַשׁ֙ הֶֽאֱכַלְתִּ֔יךְ וּנְתַתִּ֧יהוּ לִפְנֵיהֶ֛ם לְרֵ֥יחַ נִיחֹ֖חַ וַיֶּ֑הִי נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה

My meat also which I gave you, fine flour, and oil, and honey, I fed you, you have even set it before them for a sweet savour: and it was, says YHWH YHWH.

וַתִּקְחִ֞י אֶת בָּנַ֤יִךְ וְאֶת בְּנוֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָלַ֣דְתְּ לִ֔י וַתִּזְבָּחִ֥ים לָהֶ֖ם לֶאֱכ֑וֹל הַמְעַ֖ט מתזנתך מִתַּזְנוּתָֽיִךְ

Moreover you have taken your sons and your daughters, whom you have borne to me, and these have you sacrificed to them to be devoured. of your whoredoms a small matter,

וַֽתִּשְׁחֲטִ֖י אֶת בָּנָ֑י וַֽתִּתְּנִ֔ים בְּהַעֲבִ֥יר אוֹתָ֖ם לָהֶֽם

That you have slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through for them?

וְאֵ֤ת כָּל תּוֹעֲבֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ וְתַזְנֻתַ֔יִךְ לֹ֥א זכרתי זָכַ֖רְתְּ אֶת יְמֵ֣י נְעוּרָ֑יִךְ בִּֽהְיוֹתֵךְ֙ עֵרֹ֣ם וְעֶרְיָ֔ה מִתְבּוֹסֶ֥סֶת בְּדָמֵ֖ךְ הָיִֽית

And in all your abominations and your whoredoms you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you wast naked and bare, wast polluted in your blood.

וַיְהִ֕י אַחֲרֵ֖י כָּל רָעָתֵ֑ךְ א֣וֹי א֣וֹי לָ֔ךְ נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה

And it came to pass after all your wickedness, (woe, woe to you! says YHWH YHWH;)

וַתִּבְנִי לָ֖ךְ גֶּ֑ב וַתַּעֲשִׂי לָ֥ךְ רָמָ֖ה בְּכָל רְחֽוֹב

you have also built to you an eminent place, and have made you an high place in every street.

אֶל כָּל רֹ֣אשׁ דֶּ֗רֶךְ בָּנִית֙ רָֽמָתֵ֔ךְ וַתְּתַֽעֲבִי֙ אֶת יָפְיֵ֔ךְ וַתְּפַשְּׂקִ֥י אֶת רַגְלַ֖יִךְ לְכָל עוֹבֵ֑ר וַתַּרְבִּ֖י אֶת תזנתך תַּזְנוּתָֽיִךְ

You have built your high place at every head of the way, and have made your beauty to be abhorred, and have opened your feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied your whoredoms.

וַתִּזְנִ֧י אֶל בְּנֵֽי מִצְרַ֛יִם שְׁכֵנַ֖יִךְ גִּדְלֵ֣י בָשָׂ֑ר וַתַּרְבִּ֥י אֶת תַּזְנֻתֵ֖ךְ לְהַכְעִיסֵֽנִי

You have also committed fornication with the Egyptians your neighbours, great of flesh; and have increased your whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.

וְהִנֵּ֨ה נָטִ֤יתִי יָדִי֙ עָלַ֔יִךְ וָאֶגְרַ֖ע חֻקֵּ֑ךְ וָאֶתְּנֵ֞ךְ בְּנֶ֤פֶשׁ שֹׂנְאוֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ בְּנ֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים הַנִּכְלָמ֖וֹת מִדַּרְכֵּ֥ךְ זִמָּֽה

Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over you, and have diminished your ordinary , and delivered you to the will of them that hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of your lewd way.

וַתִּזְנִי֙ אֶל בְּנֵ֣י אַשּׁ֔וּר מִבִּלְתִּ֖י שָׂבְעָתֵ֑ךְ וַתִּזְנִ֕ים וְגַ֖ם לֹ֥א שָׂבָֽעַתְּ

You have played the whore also with the Assyrians, because you wast unsatiable; yea, you have played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied.

וַתַּרְבִּ֧י אֶת תַּזְנוּתֵ֛ךְ אֶל אֶ֥רֶץ כְּנַ֖עַן כַּשְׂדִּ֑ימָה וְגַם בְּזֹ֖את לֹ֥א שָׂבָֽעַתְּ

You have moreover multiplied your fornication in the land of Canaan to Chaldea; and yet you wast not satisfied herewith.

מָ֤ה אֲמֻלָה֙ לִבָּתֵ֔ךְ נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה בַּעֲשׂוֹתֵךְ֙ אֶת כָּל אֵ֔לֶּה מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה אִשָּֽׁה זוֹנָ֖ה שַׁלָּֽטֶת

How weak is your heart, says YHWH YHWH, seeing you doest all these , the work of an imperious whorish woman;

בִּבְנוֹתַ֤יִךְ גַּבֵּךְ֙ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ כָּל דֶּ֔רֶךְ וְרָמָתֵ֥ךְ עשיתי עָשִׂ֖ית בְּכָל רְח֑וֹב וְלֹא הייתי הָיִ֥ית כַּזּוֹנָ֖ה לְקַלֵּ֥ס אֶתְנָֽן

In that you buildest your eminent place in the head of every way, and makest your high place in every street; and have not been as an harlot, in that you scornest hire;

הָאִשָּׁ֖ה הַמְּנָאָ֑פֶת תַּ֣חַת אִישָׁ֔הּ תִּקַּ֖ח אֶת זָרִֽים

a wife that committeth adultery, taketh strangers instead of her husband!

לְכָל זֹנ֖וֹת יִתְּנוּ נֵ֑דֶה וְאַ֨תְּ נָתַ֤תְּ אֶת נְדָנַ֨יִךְ֙ לְכָל מְאַֽהֲבַ֔יִךְ וַתִּשְׁחֳדִ֣י אוֹתָ֗ם לָב֥וֹא אֵלַ֛יִךְ מִסָּבִ֖יב בְּתַזְנוּתָֽיִךְ

They give gifts to all whores: but you givest your gifts to all your lovers, and hirest them, that they may come to you on every side for your whoredom.

וַיְהִי בָ֨ךְ הֵ֤פֶךְ מִן הַנָּשִׁים֙ בְּתַזְנוּתַ֔יִךְ וְאַחֲרַ֖יִךְ לֹ֣א זוּנָּ֑ה וּבְתִתֵּ֣ךְ אֶתְנָ֗ן וְאֶתְנַ֛ן לֹ֥א נִתַּן לָ֖ךְ וַתְּהִ֥י לְהֶֽפֶךְ

And the contrary is in you from women in your whoredoms, whereas none followeth you to commit whoredoms: and in that you givest a reward, and no reward is given to you, therefore you are contrary.

לָכֵ֣ן זוֹנָ֔ה שִׁמְעִ֖י דְּבַר יְהוָֽה

Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of YHWH:

כֹּֽה אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהֹוִ֗ה יַ֣עַן הִשָּׁפֵ֤ךְ נְחֻשְׁתֵּךְ֙ וַתִּגָּלֶ֣ה עֶרְוָתֵ֔ךְ בְּתַזְנוּתַ֖יִךְ עַל מְאַהֲבָ֑יִךְ וְעַל֙ כָּל גִּלּוּלֵ֣י תוֹעֲבוֹתַ֔יִךְ וְכִדְמֵ֣י בָנַ֔יִךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תְּ לָהֶֽם

Thus says YHWH YHWH; Because your filthiness was poured out, and your nakedness discovered through your whoredoms with your lovers, and with all the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your children, which you didst give to them;

לָ֠כֵן הִנְנִ֨י מְקַבֵּ֤ץ אֶת כָּל מְאַהֲבַ֨יִךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָרַ֣בְתְּ עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וְאֵת֙ כָּל אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָהַ֔בְתְּ עַ֖ל כָּל אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׂנֵ֑את וְקִבַּצְתִּי֩ אֹתָ֨ם עָלַ֜יִךְ מִסָּבִ֗יב וְגִלֵּיתִ֤י עֶרְוָתֵךְ֙ אֲלֵהֶ֔ם וְרָא֖וּ אֶת כָּל עֶרְוָתֵֽךְ

Behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have taken pleasure, and all that you have loved, with all that you have hated; I will even gather them round about against you, and will discover your nakedness to them, that they may see all your nakedness.

וּשְׁפַטְתִּיךְ֙ מִשְׁפְּטֵ֣י נֹאֲפ֔וֹת וְשֹׁפְכֹ֖ת דָּ֑ם וּנְתַתִּ֕יךְ דַּ֥ם חֵמָ֖ה וְקִנְאָֽה

And I will judge you, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give you blood in fury and jealousy.

וְנָתַתִּ֨י אוֹתָ֜ךְ בְּיָדָ֗ם וְהָרְס֤וּ גַבֵּךְ֙ וְנִתְּצ֣וּ רָמֹתַ֔יִךְ וְהִפְשִׁ֤יטוּ אוֹתָךְ֙ בְּגָדַ֔יִךְ וְלָקְח֖וּ כְּלֵ֣י תִפְאַרְתֵּ֑ךְ וְהִנִּיח֖וּךְ עֵירֹ֥ם וְעֶרְיָֽה

And I will also give you into their hand, and they shall throw down your eminent place, and shall break down your high places: they shall strip you also of your clothes, and shall take your fair jewels, and leave you naked and bare.

וְהֶעֱל֤וּ עָלַ֨יִךְ֙ קָהָ֔ל וְרָגְמ֥וּ אוֹתָ֖ךְ בָּאָ֑בֶן וּבִתְּק֖וּךְ בְּחַרְבוֹתָֽם

They shall also bring up a company against you, and they shall stone you with stones, and thrust you through with their swords.

וְשָׂרְפ֤וּ בָתַּ֨יִךְ֙ בָּאֵ֔שׁ וְעָשׂוּ בָ֣ךְ שְׁפָטִ֔ים לְעֵינֵ֖י נָשִׁ֣ים רַבּ֑וֹת וְהִשְׁבַּתִּיךְ֙ מִזּוֹנָ֔ה וְגַם אֶתְנַ֖ן לֹ֥א תִתְּנִי עֽוֹד

And they shall burn your houses with fire, and execute judgments upon you in the sight of many women: and I will cause you to cease from playing the harlot, and you also shall give no hire any more.

וַהֲנִחֹתִ֤י חֲמָתִי֙ בָּ֔ךְ וְסָ֥רָה קִנְאָתִ֖י מִמֵּ֑ךְ וְשָׁ֣קַטְתִּ֔י וְלֹ֥א אֶכְעַ֖ס עֽוֹד

So will I make my fury toward you to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from you, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry.

יַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא זכרתי זָכַרְתְּ֙ אֶת יְמֵ֣י נְעוּרַ֔יִךְ וַתִּרְגְּזִי לִ֖י בְּכָל אֵ֑לֶּה וְגַם אֲנִ֨י הֵ֜א דַּרְכֵּ֣ךְ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ נָתַ֗תִּי נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה וְלֹ֤א עשיתי עָשִׂית֙ אֶת הַזִּמָּ֔ה עַ֖ל כָּל תּוֹעֲבֹתָֽיִךְ

Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have fretted me in all these ; behold, therefore I also will recompense your way upon head, says YHWH YHWH: and you shall not commit this lewdness above all your abominations.

הִנֵּה֙ כָּל הַמֹּשֵׁ֔ל עָלַ֥יִךְ יִמְשֹׁ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר כְּאִמָּ֖ה בִּתָּֽהּ

Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use proverb against you, saying, As the mother, her daughter.

בַּת אִמֵּ֣ךְ אַ֔תְּ גֹּעֶ֥לֶת אִישָׁ֖הּ וּבָנֶ֑יהָ וַאֲח֨וֹת אֲחוֹתֵ֜ךְ אַ֗תְּ אֲשֶׁ֤ר גָּֽעֲ֨לוּ֙ אַנְשֵׁיהֶ֣ן וּבְנֵיהֶ֔ן אִמְּכֶ֣ן חִתִּ֔ית וַאֲבִיכֶ֖ן אֱמֹרִֽי

You your mother's daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and you the sister of your sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother an Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

וַאֲחוֹתֵ֨ךְ הַגְּדוֹלָ֤ה שֹֽׁמְרוֹן֙ הִ֣יא וּבְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ הַיּוֹשֶׁ֖בֶת עַל שְׂמֹאולֵ֑ךְ וַאֲחוֹתֵ֞ךְ הַקְּטַנָּ֣ה מִמֵּ֗ךְ הַיּוֹשֶׁ֨בֶת֙ מִֽימִינֵ֔ךְ סְדֹ֖ם וּבְנוֹתֶֽיהָ

And your elder sister Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at your left hand: and your younger sister, that dwelleth at your right hand, Sodom and her daughters.

וְלֹ֤א בְדַרְכֵיהֶן֙ הָלַ֔כְתְּ וּבְתוֹעֲבֽוֹתֵיהֶ֖ן עשיתי עָשִׂ֑ית כִּמְעַ֣ט קָ֔ט וַתַּשְׁחִ֥תִי מֵהֵ֖ן בְּכָל דְּרָכָֽיִךְ

Yet have you not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as a very little , you wast corrupted more than they in all your ways.

חַי אָ֗נִי נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה אִם עָֽשְׂתָה֙ סְדֹ֣ם אֲחוֹתֵ֔ךְ הִ֖יא וּבְנוֹתֶ֑יהָ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֔ית אַ֖תְּ וּבְנוֹתָֽיִךְ

I live, says YHWH YHWH, Sodom your sister has not done, she nor her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.

הִנֵּה זֶ֣ה הָיָ֔ה עֲוֺ֖ן סְדֹ֣ם אֲחוֹתֵ֑ךְ גָּא֨וֹן שִׂבְעַת לֶ֜חֶם וְשַׁלְוַ֣ת הַשְׁקֵ֗ט הָ֤יָה לָהּ֙ וְלִבְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ וְיַד עָנִ֥י וְאֶבְי֖וֹן לֹ֥א הֶחֱזִֽיקָה

Behold, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

וַֽתִּגְבְּהֶ֔ינָה וַתַּעֲשֶׂ֥ינָה תוֹעֵבָ֖ה לְפָנָ֑י וָאָסִ֥יר אֶתְהֶ֖ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר רָאִֽיתִי

And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw .

וְשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן כַּחֲצִ֥י חַטֹּאתַ֖יִךְ לֹ֣א חָטָ֑אָה וַתַּרְבִּ֤י אֶת תּוֹעֲבוֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ מֵהֵ֔נָּה וַתְּצַדְּקִי֙ אֶת אחותך אֲחוֹתַ֔יִךְ בְּכָל תּוֹעֲבוֹתַ֖יִךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עשיתי עָשִֽׂית

Neither has Samaria committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters in all your abominations which you have done.

גַּם אַ֣תְּ שְׂאִ֣י כְלִמָּתֵ֗ךְ אֲשֶׁ֤ר פִּלַּלְתְּ֙ לַֽאֲחוֹתֵ֔ךְ בְּחַטֹּאתַ֛יִךְ אֲשֶׁר הִתְעַ֥בְתְּ מֵהֵ֖ן תִּצְדַּ֣קְנָה מִמֵּ֑ךְ וְגַם אַ֥תְּ בּ֨וֹשִׁי֙ וּשְׂאִ֣י כְלִמָּתֵ֔ךְ בְּצַדֶּקְתֵּ֖ךְ אַחְיוֹתֵֽךְ

You also, which have judged your sisters, bear your own shame for your sins that you have committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than you: yea, be you confounded also, and bear your shame, in that you have justified your sisters.

וְשַׁבְתִּי֙ אֶת שְׁבִ֣יתְהֶ֔ן אֶת שבית שְׁב֤וּת סְדֹם֙ וּבְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ וְאֶת שבית שְׁב֥וּת שֹׁמְר֖וֹן וּבְנוֹתֶ֑יהָ ושבית וּשְׁב֥וּת שְׁבִיתַ֖יִךְ בְּתוֹכָֽהְנָה

When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then the captivity of your captives in the midst of them:

לְמַ֨עַן֙ תִּשְׂאִ֣י כְלִמָּתֵ֔ךְ וְנִכְלַ֕מְתְּ מִכֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֑ית בְּנַחֲמֵ֖ךְ אֹתָֽן

That you mayest bear your own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that you have done, in that you are a comfort to them.

וַאֲחוֹתַ֗יִךְ סְדֹ֤ם וּבְנוֹתֶ֨יהָ֙ תָּשֹׁ֣בְןָ לְקַדְמָתָ֔ן וְשֹֽׁמְרוֹן֙ וּבְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ תָּשֹׁ֖בְןָ לְקַדְמָתָ֑ן וְאַתְּ֙ וּבְנוֹתַ֔יִךְ תְּשֻׁבֶ֖ינָה לְקַדְמַתְכֶֽן

When your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then you and your daughters shall return to your former estate.

וְל֤וֹא הָֽיְתָה֙ סְדֹ֣ם אֲחוֹתֵ֔ךְ לִשְׁמוּעָ֖ה בְּפִ֑יךְ בְּי֖וֹם גְּאוֹנָֽיִךְ

For your sister Sodom was not mentioned by your mouth in the day of your pride,

בְּטֶרֶם֮ תִּגָּלֶ֣ה רָעָתֵךְ֒ כְּמ֗וֹ עֵ֚ת חֶרְפַּ֣ת בְּנוֹת אֲרָ֔ם וְכָל סְבִיבוֹתֶ֖יהָ בְּנ֣וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים הַשָּׁאט֥וֹת אוֹתָ֖ךְ מִסָּבִֽיב

Before your wickedness was discovered, as at the time of reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise you round about.

אֶת זִמָּתֵ֥ךְ וְאֶת תּוֹעֲבוֹתַ֖יִךְ אַ֣תְּ נְשָׂאתִ֑ים נְאֻ֖ם יְהוָֽה

You have borne your lewdness and your abominations, says YHWH.

כִּ֣י כֹ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה ועשית וְעָשִׂ֥יתִי אוֹתָ֖ךְ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֑ית אֲשֶׁר בָּזִ֥ית אָלָ֖ה לְהָפֵ֥ר בְּרִֽית

For thus says YHWH YHWH; I will even deal with you as you have done, which have despised the oath in breaking the covenant.

וְזָכַרְתִּ֨י אֲנִ֧י אֶת בְּרִיתִ֛י אוֹתָ֖ךְ בִּימֵ֣י נְעוּרָ֑יִךְ וַהֲקִמוֹתִ֥י לָ֖ךְ בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם

Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant.

וְזָכַ֣רְתְּ אֶת דְּרָכַיִךְ֮ וְנִכְלַמְתְּ֒ בְּקַחְתֵּ֗ךְ אֶת אֲחוֹתַ֨יִךְ֙ הַגְּדֹל֣וֹת מִמֵּ֔ךְ אֶל הַקְּטַנּ֖וֹת מִמֵּ֑ךְ וְנָתַתִּ֨י אֶתְהֶ֥ן לָ֛ךְ לְבָנ֖וֹת וְלֹ֥א מִבְּרִיתֵֽךְ

Then you shall remember your ways, and be ashamed, when you shall receive your sisters, your elder and your younger: and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant.

וַהֲקִימוֹתִ֥י אֲנִ֛י אֶת בְּרִיתִ֖י אִתָּ֑ךְ וְיָדַ֖עַתְּ כִּֽי אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה

And I will establish my covenant with you; and you shall know that I YHWH:

לְמַ֤עַן תִּזְכְּרִי֙ וָבֹ֔שְׁתְּ וְלֹ֨א יִֽהְיֶה לָּ֥ךְ עוֹד֙ פִּתְח֣וֹן פֶּ֔ה מִפְּנֵ֖י כְּלִמָּתֵ֑ךְ בְּכַפְּרִי לָךְ֙ לְכָל אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשִׂ֔ית נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה

That you mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open your mouth any more because of your shame, when I am pacified toward you for all that you have done, says YHWH YHWH.
