Theme

Psalms 115 (18 verses in the MT) opens: Not to us, O YHWH, not to us, but to your name give glory, for your mercy, for your truth's sake. The middle of the chapter continues: O house of Aaron, trust in YHWH: he their help and their shield. It closes: But we will bless YHWH from this time forth and for evermore. Praise YHWH.

Psalms 115 comprises 18 verses in MT order. Movement I (vv. 1-4) — Not to us, O YHWH, not to us, but to your name give glory, for your merc. Not to us, O YHWH, not to us, but to your name give glory, for your mercy, for your truth's sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where now their God? But our God in the heavens: he has done whatsoever he has pleased. Their idols silver and gold, the work of men's hands. Movement II (vv. 5-8) — They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:. He will bless them that fear YHWH, small and great. YHWH shall increase you more and more, you and your children. You blessed of YHWH which made heaven and earth. The heaven, the heavens, YHWH's: but the earth has he given to the children of men. Movement V (vv. 17-18) — The dead praise not YHWH, neither any that go down into silence.
