וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר יְהוָ֧ה אֶל מֹשֶׁ֛ה בְּמִדְבַּ֥ר סִינַ֖י בְּאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֑ד בְּאֶחָד֩ לַחֹ֨דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֜י בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַשֵּׁנִ֗ית לְצֵאתָ֛ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרַ֖יִם לֵאמֹֽר

And YHWH spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tent of meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year of their going out from the land of Egypt, saying,

שְׂא֗וּ אֶת רֹאשׁ֙ כָּל עֲדַ֣ת בְּנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמ֔וֹת כָּל זָכָ֖ר לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָֽם

Take a census of the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, every male, head by head,

מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כָּל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָ֖א בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל תִּפְקְד֥וּ אֹתָ֛ם לְצִבְאֹתָ֖ם אַתָּ֥ה וְאַהֲרֹֽן

from twenty years old and upward, everyone in Israel able to go out to war, you and Aaron shall number them by their companies.

וְאִתְּכֶ֣ם יִהְי֔וּ אִ֥ישׁ אִ֖ישׁ לַמַּטֶּ֑ה אִ֛ישׁ רֹ֥אשׁ לְבֵית אֲבֹתָ֖יו הֽוּא

And with you there shall be a man for each tribe, a man who is head of his father's house.

וְאֵ֨לֶּה֙ שְׁמ֣וֹת הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַֽעַמְד֖וּ אִתְּכֶ֑ם לִרְאוּבֵ֕ן אֱלִיצ֖וּר בֶּן שְׁדֵיאֽוּר

And these are the names of the men who shall stand with you: of Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur;

לְשִׁמְע֕וֹן שְׁלֻמִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן צוּרִֽישַׁדָּֽי

of Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;

לִֽיהוּדָ֕ה נַחְשׁ֖וֹן בֶּן עַמִּינָדָֽב

of Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab;

לְיִ֨שָּׂשכָ֔ר נְתַנְאֵ֖ל בֶּן צוּעָֽר

of Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar;

לִזְבוּלֻ֕ן אֱלִיאָ֖ב בֶּן חֵלֹֽן

of Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon;

לִבְנֵ֣י יוֹסֵ֔ף לְאֶפְרַ֕יִם אֱלִישָׁמָ֖ע בֶּן עַמִּיה֑וּד לִמְנַשֶּׁ֕ה גַּמְלִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן פְּדָהצֽוּר

of the sons of Joseph: of Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamliel son of Pedahzur;

לְבִ֨נְיָמִ֔ן אֲבִידָ֖ן בֶּן גִּדְעֹנִֽי

of Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;

לְדָ֕ן אֲחִיעֶ֖זֶר בֶּן עַמִּֽישַׁדָּֽי

of Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;

לְאָשֵׁ֕ר פַּגְעִיאֵ֖ל בֶּן עָכְרָֽן

of Asher, Pagiel son of Ochran;

לְגָ֕ד אֶלְיָסָ֖ף בֶּן דְּעוּאֵֽל

of Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;

לְנַ֨פְתָּלִ֔י אֲחִירַ֖ע בֶּן עֵינָֽן

of Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.

אֵ֚לֶּה קריאי קְרוּאֵ֣י הָעֵדָ֔ה נְשִׂיאֵ֖י מַטּ֣וֹת אֲבוֹתָ֑ם רָאשֵׁ֛י אַלְפֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הֵֽם

These were the ones summoned from the congregation, chiefs of the tribes of their fathers; they were heads of Israel's thousands.

וַיִּקַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֖ה וְאַהֲרֹ֑ן אֵ֚ת הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִקְּב֖וּ בְּשֵׁמֽוֹת

So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated by name,

וְאֵ֨ת כָּל הָעֵדָ֜ה הִקְהִ֗ילוּ בְּאֶחָד֙ לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י וַיִּתְיַֽלְד֥וּ עַל מִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמ֗וֹת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֥ים שָׁנָ֛ה וָמַ֖עְלָה לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָֽם

and they assembled the whole congregation on the first day of the second month, and they registered themselves by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, head by head.

כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶת מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַֽיִּפְקְדֵ֖ם בְּמִדְבַּ֥ר סִינָֽי

just as YHWH commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

וַיִּהְי֤וּ בְנֵֽי רְאוּבֵן֙ בְּכֹ֣ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֤ר שֵׁמוֹת֙ לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָ֔ם כָּל זָכָ֗ר מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

The sons of Reuben, Israel's firstborn — their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה רְאוּבֵ֑ן שִׁשָּׁ֧ה וְאַרְבָּעִ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י שִׁמְע֔וֹן תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם פְּקֻדָ֗יו בְּמִסְפַּ֤ר שֵׁמוֹת֙ לְגֻלְגְּלֹתָ֔ם כָּל זָכָ֗ר מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Simeon, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses — his mustered ones, by the number of names, head by head, every male from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה שִׁמְע֑וֹן תִּשְׁעָ֧ה וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וּשְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י גָ֔ד תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמ֗וֹת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Gad, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה גָ֑ד חֲמִשָּׁ֤ה וְאַרְבָּעִים֙ אֶ֔לֶף וְשֵׁ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת וַחֲמִשִּֽׁים

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

לִבְנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Judah, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה יְהוּדָ֑ה אַרְבָּעָ֧ה וְשִׁבְעִ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וְשֵׁ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י יִשָּׂשכָ֔ר תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Issachar, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה יִשָּׂשכָ֑ר אַרְבָּעָ֧ה וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י זְבוּלֻ֔ן תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Zebulun, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה זְבוּלֻ֑ן שִׁבְעָ֧ה וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

לִבְנֵ֤י יוֹסֵף֙ לִבְנֵ֣י אֶפְרַ֔יִם תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Joseph, of the sons of Ephraim, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה אֶפְרָ֑יִם אַרְבָּעִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמ֗וֹת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Manasseh, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה מְנַשֶּׁ֑ה שְׁנַ֧יִם וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וּמָאתָֽיִם

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֔ן תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Benjamin, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה בִנְיָמִ֑ן חֲמִשָּׁ֧ה וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י דָ֔ן תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Dan, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה דָ֑ן שְׁנַ֧יִם וְשִׁשִּׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וּשְׁבַ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

לִבְנֵ֣י אָשֵׁ֔ר תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

of the sons of Asher, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה אָשֵׁ֑ר אֶחָ֧ד וְאַרְבָּעִ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

בְּנֵ֣י נַפְתָּלִ֔י תּוֹלְדֹתָ֥ם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָ֖ם לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם בְּמִסְפַּ֣ר שֵׁמֹ֗ת מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כֹּ֖ל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָֽא

the sons of Naphtali, their generations, by their clans, by their fathers' houses, by the number of names, from twenty years old and upward, everyone able to go out to war —

פְּקֻדֵיהֶ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה נַפְתָּלִ֑י שְׁלֹשָׁ֧ה וַחֲמִשִּׁ֛ים אֶ֖לֶף וְאַרְבַּ֥ע מֵאֽוֹת

their mustered ones, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

אֵ֣לֶּה הַפְּקֻדִ֡ים אֲשֶׁר֩ פָּקַ֨ד מֹשֶׁ֤ה וְאַהֲרֹן֙ וּנְשִׂיאֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָׂ֖ר אִ֑ישׁ אִישׁ אֶחָ֥ד לְבֵית אֲבֹתָ֖יו הָיֽוּ

These are the ones mustered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, with the chiefs of Israel — twelve men, each one for his father's house.

וַיִּֽהְי֛וּ כָּל פְּקוּדֵ֥י בְנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְבֵ֣ית אֲבֹתָ֑ם מִבֶּ֨ן עֶשְׂרִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ וָמַ֔עְלָה כָּל יֹצֵ֥א צָבָ֖א בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל

So all those mustered of the sons of Israel, by their fathers' houses, from twenty years old and upward, everyone in Israel able to go out to war —

וַיִּֽהְיוּ֙ כָּל הַפְּקֻדִ֔ים שֵׁשׁ מֵא֥וֹת אֶ֖לֶף וּשְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֑ים וַחֲמֵ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת וַחֲמִשִּֽׁים

all those mustered were six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty.

וְהַלְוִיִּ֖ם לְמַטֵּ֣ה אֲבֹתָ֑ם לֹ֥א הָתְפָּקְד֖וּ בְּתוֹכָֽם

But the Levites, by the tribe of their fathers, were not mustered among them.

וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר

And YHWH spoke to Moses, saying,

אַ֣ךְ אֶת מַטֵּ֤ה לֵוִי֙ לֹ֣א תִפְקֹ֔ד וְאֶת רֹאשָׁ֖ם לֹ֣א תִשָּׂ֑א בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, and their head you shall not lift, among the sons of Israel.

וְאַתָּ֡ה הַפְקֵ֣ד אֶת הַלְוִיִּם֩ עַל מִשְׁכַּ֨ן הָעֵדֻ֜ת וְעַ֣ל כָּל כֵּלָיו֮ וְעַ֣ל כָּל אֲשֶׁר לוֹ֒ הֵ֜מָּה יִשְׂא֤וּ אֶת הַמִּשְׁכָּן֙ וְאֶת כָּל כֵּלָ֔יו וְהֵ֖ם יְשָׁרְתֻ֑הוּ וְסָבִ֥יב לַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן יַחֲנֽוּ

But you shall appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of the testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all that belongs to it; they shall carry the tabernacle and all its vessels, and they shall minister to it, and they shall camp around the tabernacle.

וּבִנְסֹ֣עַ הַמִּשְׁכָּ֗ן יוֹרִ֤ידוּ אֹתוֹ֙ הַלְוִיִּ֔ם וּבַחֲנֹת֙ הַמִּשְׁכָּ֔ן יָקִ֥ימוּ אֹת֖וֹ הַלְוִיִּ֑ם וְהַזָּ֥ר הַקָּרֵ֖ב יוּמָֽת

And when the tabernacle sets out, the Levites shall take it down, and when the tabernacle is to camp, the Levites shall set it up; and the outsider who comes near shall be put to death.

וְחָנ֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אִ֧ישׁ עַֽל מַחֲנֵ֛הוּ וְאִ֥ישׁ עַל דִּגְל֖וֹ לְצִבְאֹתָֽם

The sons of Israel shall camp, each man by his own camp and each man by his own standard, by their companies.

וְהַלְוִיִּ֞ם יַחֲנ֤וּ סָבִיב֙ לְמִשְׁכַּ֣ן הָעֵדֻ֔ת וְלֹֽא יִהְיֶ֣ה קֶ֔צֶף עַל עֲדַ֖ת בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְשָׁמְרוּ֙ הַלְוִיִּ֔ם אֶת מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת מִשְׁכַּ֥ן הָעֵדֽוּת

But the Levites shall camp around the tabernacle of the testimony, so that there will be no wrath upon the congregation of the sons of Israel; and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of the testimony.

וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כְּ֠כֹל אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה אֶת מֹשֶׁ֖ה כֵּ֥ן עָשֽׂוּ

And the sons of Israel did so; according to all that YHWH had commanded Moses, so they did.
