The Book of Jeremiah, Chapter 15ירמיהו 15

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י אִם יַעֲמֹ֨ד מֹשֶׁ֤ה וּשְׁמוּאֵל֙ לְפָנַ֔י אֵ֥ין נַפְשִׁ֖י אֶל הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֑ה שַׁלַּ֥ח מֵֽעַל פָּנַ֖י וְיֵצֵֽאוּ

Then said YHWH to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, my mind not toward this people: cast out of my sight, and let them go forth.

וְהָיָ֛ה כִּֽי יֹאמְר֥וּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ אָ֣נָה נֵצֵ֑א וְאָמַרְתָּ֨ אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם כֹּֽה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר לַמָּ֤וֶת לַמָּ֨וֶת֙ וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר לַחֶ֨רֶב֙ לַחֶ֔רֶב וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר לָֽרָעָב֙ לָֽרָעָ֔ב וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר לַשְּׁבִ֖י לַשֶּֽׁבִי

And it shall come to pass, if they say to you, Whither shall we go forth? then you shall tell them, Thus says YHWH; Such as for death, to death; and such as for the sword, to the sword; and such as for the famine, to the famine; and such as for the captivity, to the captivity.

וּפָקַדְתִּ֨י עֲלֵיהֶ֜ם אַרְבַּ֤ע מִשְׁפָּחוֹת֙ נְאֻם יְהוָ֔ה אֶת הַחֶ֣רֶב לַֽהֲרֹ֔ג וְאֶת הַכְּלָבִ֖ים לִסְחֹ֑ב וְאֶת ע֧וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם וְאֶת בֶּהֱמַ֥ת הָאָ֖רֶץ לֶאֱכֹ֥ל וּלְהַשְׁחִֽית

And I will appoint over them four kinds, says YHWH: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.

וּנְתַתִּ֣ים לזועה לְזַֽעֲוָ֔ה לְכֹ֖ל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָאָ֑רֶץ בִּ֠גְלַל מְנַשֶּׁ֤ה בֶן יְחִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה עַ֥ל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂ֖ה בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם

And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for which he did in Jerusalem.

כִּ֠י מִֽי יַחְמֹ֤ל עָלַ֨יִךְ֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וּמִ֖י יָנ֣וּד לָ֑ךְ וּמִ֣י יָס֔וּר לִשְׁאֹ֥ל לְשָׁלֹ֖ם לָֽךְ

For who shall have pity upon you, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan you? or who shall go aside to ask how you doest?

אַ֣תְּ נָטַ֥שְׁתְּ אֹתִ֛י נְאֻם יְהוָ֖ה אָח֣וֹר תֵּלֵ֑כִי וָאַ֨ט אֶת יָדִ֤י עָלַ֨יִךְ֙ וָֽאַשְׁחִיתֵ֔ךְ נִלְאֵ֖יתִי הִנָּחֵֽם

You have forsaken me, says YHWH, you are gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against you, and destroy you; I am weary with repenting.

וָאֶזְרֵ֥ם בְּמִזְרֶ֖ה בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֣י הָאָ֑רֶץ שִׁכַּ֤לְתִּי אִבַּ֨דְתִּי֙ אֶת עַמִּ֔י מִדַּרְכֵיהֶ֖ם לוֹא שָֽׁבוּ

And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave of children, I will destroy my people, they return not from their ways.

עָֽצְמוּ לִ֤י אַלְמְנֹתָו֙ מֵח֣וֹל יַמִּ֔ים הֵבֵ֨אתִי לָהֶ֥ם עַל אֵ֛ם בָּח֖וּר שֹׁדֵ֣ד בַּֽצָּהֳרָ֑יִם הִפַּ֤לְתִּי עָלֶ֨יהָ֙ פִּתְאֹ֔ם עִ֖יר וּבֶהָלֽוֹת

Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.

אֻמְלְלָ֞ה יֹלֶ֣דֶת הַשִּׁבְעָ֗ה נָפְחָ֥ה נַפְשָׁ֛הּ באה בָּ֥א שִׁמְשָׁ֛הּ בְּעֹ֥ד יוֹמָ֖ם בּ֣וֹשָׁה וְחָפֵ֑רָה וּשְׁאֵֽרִיתָ֗ם לַחֶ֧רֶב אֶתֵּ֛ן לִפְנֵ֥י אֹיְבֵיהֶ֖ם נְאֻם יְהוָֽה

She that has borne seven languisheth: she has given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while yet day: she has been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, says YHWH.

אֽוֹי לִ֣י אִמִּ֔י כִּ֣י יְלִדְתִּ֗נִי אִ֥ישׁ רִ֛יב וְאִ֥ישׁ מָד֖וֹן לְכָל הָאָ֑רֶץ לֹֽא נָשִׁ֥יתִי וְלֹא נָֽשׁוּ בִ֖י כֻּלֹּ֥ה מְקַלְלַֽונִי

Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; every one of them does curse me.

אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה אִם לֹ֥א שרותך שֵֽׁרִיתִ֖יךָ לְט֑וֹב אִם ל֣וֹא הִפְגַּ֣עְתִּֽי בְךָ֗ בְּעֵ֥ת רָעָ֛ה וּבְעֵ֥ת צָרָ֖ה אֶת הָאֹיֵֽב

YHWH said, Verily it shall be well with your remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat you in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

הֲיָרֹ֨עַ בַּרְזֶ֧ל בַּרְזֶ֛ל מִצָּפ֖וֹן וּנְחֹֽשֶׁת

Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?

חֵילְךָ֧ וְאוֹצְרוֹתֶ֛יךָ לָבַ֥ז אֶתֵּ֖ן לֹ֣א בִמְחִ֑יר וּבְכָל חַטֹּאותֶ֖יךָ וּבְכָל גְּבוּלֶֽיךָ

Your substance and your treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and for all your sins, even in all your borders.

וְהַֽעֲבַרְתִּי֙ אֶת אֹ֣יְבֶ֔יךָ בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֣א יָדָ֑עְתָּ כִּֽי אֵ֛שׁ קָדְחָ֥ה בְאַפִּ֖י עֲלֵיכֶ֥ם תּוּקָֽד

And I will make to pass with your enemies into a land you knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, shall burn upon you.

אַתָּ֧ה יָדַ֣עְתָּ יְהוָ֗ה זָכְרֵ֤נִי וּפָקְדֵ֨נִי֙ וְהִנָּ֤קֶם לִי֙ מֵרֹ֣דְפַ֔י אַל לְאֶ֥רֶךְ אַפְּךָ֖ תִּקָּחֵ֑נִי דַּ֕ע שְׂאֵתִ֥י עָלֶ֖יךָ חֶרְפָּֽה

O YHWH, you knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in your longsuffering: know that for your sake I have suffered rebuke.

נִמְצְא֤וּ דְבָרֶ֨יךָ֙ וָאֹ֣כְלֵ֔ם וַיְהִ֤י דבריך דְבָֽרְךָ֙ לִ֔י לְשָׂשׂ֖וֹן וּלְשִׂמְחַ֣ת לְבָבִ֑י כִּֽי נִקְרָ֤א שִׁמְךָ֙ עָלַ֔י יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י צְבָאֽוֹת

Your words were found, and I did eat them; and your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by your name, O YHWH God of hosts.

לֹֽא יָשַׁ֥בְתִּי בְסוֹד מְשַׂחֲקִ֖ים וָֽאֶעְלֹ֑ז מִפְּנֵ֤י יָֽדְךָ֙ בָּדָ֣ד יָשַׁ֔בְתִּי כִּֽי זַ֖עַם מִלֵּאתָֽנִי

I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of your hand: for you have filled me with indignation.

לָ֣מָּה הָיָ֤ה כְאֵבִי֙ נֶ֔צַח וּמַכָּתִ֖י אֲנוּשָׁ֑ה֙ מֵֽאֲנָה֙ הֵֽרָפֵ֔א הָי֨וֹ תִֽהְיֶ֥ה לִי֙ כְּמ֣וֹ אַכְזָ֔ב מַ֖יִם לֹ֥א נֶאֱמָֽנוּ

Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, refuseth to be healed? will you be altogether to me as a liar, waters fail?

לָכֵ֞ן כֹּֽה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אִם תָּשׁ֤וּב וַאֲשִֽׁיבְךָ֙ לְפָנַ֣י תַּֽעֲמֹ֔ד וְאִם תּוֹצִ֥יא יָקָ֛ר מִזּוֹלֵ֖ל כְּפִ֣י תִֽהְיֶ֑ה יָשֻׁ֤בוּ הֵ֨מָּה֙ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְאַתָּ֖ה לֹֽא תָשׁ֥וּב אֲלֵיהֶֽם

Therefore thus says YHWH, If you return, then will I bring you again, you shall stand before me: and if you take forth the precious from the vile, you shall be as my mouth: let them return to you; but return not you to them.

וּנְתַתִּ֜יךָ לָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֗ה לְחוֹמַ֤ת נְחֹ֨שֶׁת֙ בְּצוּרָ֔ה וְנִלְחֲמ֥וּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ וְלֹא י֣וּכְלוּ לָ֑ךְ כִּֽי אִתְּךָ֥ אֲנִ֛י לְהוֹשִֽׁיעֲךָ֥ וּלְהַצִּילֶ֖ךָ נְאֻם יְהוָֽה

And I will make you to this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you: for I with you to save you and to deliver you, says YHWH.

וְהִצַּלְתִּ֖יךָ מִיַּ֣ד רָעִ֑ים וּפְדִתִ֖יךָ מִכַּ֥ף עָרִצִֽים

And I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem you out of the hand of the terrible.
