The Book of Isaiah, Chapter 63ישעיהו 63

מִי זֶ֣ה בָּ֣א מֵאֱד֗וֹם חֲמ֤וּץ בְּגָדִים֙ מִבָּצְרָ֔ה זֶ֚ה הָד֣וּר בִּלְבוּשׁ֔וֹ צֹעֶ֖ה בְּרֹ֣ב כֹּח֑וֹ אֲנִ֛י מְדַבֵּ֥ר בִּצְדָקָ֖ה רַ֥ב לְהוֹשִֽׁיעַ

Who this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this glorious in his apparel, travelling in the greatness of his strength? I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save.

מַדּ֥וּעַ אָדֹ֖ם לִלְבוּשֶׁ֑ךָ וּבְגָדֶ֖יךָ כְּדֹרֵ֥ךְ בְּגַֽת

Wherefore red in your apparel, and your garments like him that treadeth in the winefat?

פּוּרָ֣ה דָּרַ֣כְתִּי לְבַדִּ֗י וּמֵֽעַמִּים֙ אֵֽין אִ֣ישׁ אִתִּ֔י וְאֶדְרְכֵ֣ם בְּאַפִּ֔י וְאֶרְמְסֵ֖ם בַּחֲמָתִ֑י וְיֵ֤ז נִצְחָם֙ עַל בְּגָדַ֔י וְכָל מַלְבּוּשַׁ֖י אֶגְאָֽלְתִּי

I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.

כִּ֛י י֥וֹם נָקָ֖ם בְּלִבִּ֑י וּשְׁנַ֥ת גְּאוּלַ֖י בָּֽאָה

For the day of vengeance in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

וְאַבִּיט֙ וְאֵ֣ין עֹזֵ֔ר וְאֶשְׁתּוֹמֵ֖ם וְאֵ֣ין סוֹמֵ֑ךְ וַתּ֤וֹשַֽׁע לִי֙ זְרֹעִ֔י וַחֲמָתִ֖י הִ֥יא סְמָכָֽתְנִי

And I looked, and none to help; and I wondered that none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation to me; and my fury, it upheld me.

וְאָב֤וּס עַמִּים֙ בְּאַפִּ֔י וַאֲשַׁכְּרֵ֖ם בַּחֲמָתִ֑י וְאוֹרִ֥יד לָאָ֖רֶץ נִצְחָֽם

And I will tread down the people in mine anger, and make them drunk in my fury, and I will bring down their strength to the earth.

חַֽסְדֵ֨י יְהוָ֤ה אַזְכִּיר֙ תְּהִלֹּ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה כְּעַ֕ל כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר גְּמָלָ֖נוּ יְהוָ֑ה וְרַב טוּב֙ לְבֵ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר גְּמָלָ֥ם כְּֽרַחֲמָ֖יו וּכְרֹ֥ב חֲסָדָֽיו

I will mention the lovingkindnesses of YHWH, the praises of YHWH, according to all that YHWH has bestowed on us, and the great goodness toward the house of Israel, which he has bestowed on them according to his mercies, and according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אַךְ עַמִּ֣י הֵ֔מָּה בָּנִ֖ים לֹ֣א יְשַׁקֵּ֑רוּ וַיְהִ֥י לָהֶ֖ם לְמוֹשִֽׁיעַ

For he said, Surely they my people, children will not lie: so he was their Saviour.

בְּֽכָל צָרָתָ֣ם לא ל֣וֹ צָ֗ר וּמַלְאַ֤ךְ פָּנָיו֙ הֽוֹשִׁיעָ֔ם בְּאַהֲבָת֥וֹ וּבְחֶמְלָת֖וֹ ה֣וּא גְאָלָ֑ם וַֽיְנַטְּלֵ֥ם וַֽיְנַשְּׂאֵ֖ם כָּל יְמֵ֥י עוֹלָֽם

In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.

וְהֵ֛מָּה מָר֥וּ וְעִצְּב֖וּ אֶת ר֣וּחַ קָדְשׁ֑וֹ וַיֵּהָפֵ֥ךְ לָהֶ֛ם לְאוֹיֵ֖ב ה֥וּא נִלְחַם בָּֽם

But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, he fought against them.

וַיִּזְכֹּ֥ר יְמֵֽי עוֹלָ֖ם מֹשֶׁ֣ה עַמּ֑וֹ אַיֵּ֣ה הַֽמַּעֲלֵ֣ם מִיָּ֗ם אֵ֚ת רֹעֵ֣י צֹאנ֔וֹ אַיֵּ֛ה הַשָּׂ֥ם בְּקִרְבּ֖וֹ אֶת ר֥וּחַ קָדְשֽׁוֹ

Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, his people, , Where he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where he that put his holy Spirit within him?

מוֹלִיךְ֙ לִימִ֣ין מֹשֶׁ֔ה זְר֖וֹעַ תִּפְאַרְתּ֑וֹ בּ֤וֹקֵֽעַ מַ֨יִם֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת ל֖וֹ שֵׁ֥ם עוֹלָֽם

That led by the right hand of Moses with his glorious arm, dividing the water before them, to make himself an everlasting name?

מוֹלִיכָ֖ם בַּתְּהֹמ֑וֹת כַּסּ֥וּס בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר לֹ֥א יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ

That led them through the deep, as an horse in the wilderness, they should not stumble?

כַּבְּהֵמָה֙ בַּבִּקְעָ֣ה תֵרֵ֔ד ר֥וּחַ יְהוָ֖ה תְּנִיחֶ֑נּוּ כֵּ֚ן נִהַ֣גְתָּ עַמְּךָ֔ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת לְךָ֖ שֵׁ֥ם תִּפְאָֽרֶת

As a beast goeth down into the valley, the Spirit of YHWH caused him to rest: so didst you lead your people, to make thyself a glorious name.

הַבֵּ֤ט מִשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ וּרְאֵ֔ה מִזְּבֻ֥ל קָדְשְׁךָ֖ וְתִפְאַרְתֶּ֑ךָ אַיֵּ֤ה קִנְאָֽתְךָ֙ וּגְב֣וּרֹתֶ֔ךָ הֲמ֥וֹן מֵעֶ֛יךָ וְֽרַחֲמֶ֖יךָ אֵלַ֥י הִתְאַפָּֽקוּ

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory: where your zeal and your strength, the sounding of your bowels and of your mercies toward me? are they restrained?

כִּֽי אַתָּ֣ה אָבִ֔ינוּ כִּ֤י אַבְרָהָם֙ לֹ֣א יְדָעָ֔נוּ וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֹ֣א יַכִּירָ֑נוּ אַתָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ אָבִ֔ינוּ גֹּאֲלֵ֥נוּ מֵֽעוֹלָ֖ם שְׁמֶֽךָ

Doubtless you our father, though Abraham be ignorant of us, and Israel acknowledge us not: you, O YHWH, our father, our redeemer; your name from everlasting.

לָ֣מָּה תַתְעֵ֤נוּ יְהוָה֙ מִדְּרָכֶ֔יךָ תַּקְשִׁ֥יחַ לִבֵּ֖נוּ מִיִּרְאָתֶ֑ךָ שׁ֚וּב לְמַ֣עַן עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ שִׁבְטֵ֖י נַחֲלָתֶֽךָ

O YHWH, why have you made us to err from your ways, hardened our heart from your fear? Return for your servants' sake, the tribes of your inheritance.

לַמִּצְעָ֕ר יָרְשׁ֖וּ עַם קָדְשֶׁ֑ךָ צָרֵ֕ינוּ בּוֹסְס֖וּ מִקְדָּשֶֽׁךָ

The people of your holiness have possessed but a little while: our adversaries have trodden down your sanctuary.

הָיִ֗ינוּ מֵֽעוֹלָם֙ לֹֽא מָשַׁ֣לְתָּ בָּ֔ם לֹֽא נִקְרָ֥א שִׁמְךָ֖ עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם לוּא קָרַ֤עְתָּ שָׁמַ֨יִם֙ יָרַ֔דְתָּ מִפָּנֶ֖יךָ הָרִ֥ים נָזֹֽלּוּ

We are : you never barest rule over them; they were not called by your name.
