וַיִּרְגַּ֣ז הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ וַיַּ֛עַל עַל עֲלִיַּ֥ת הַשַּׁ֖עַר וַיֵּ֑בְךְּ וְכֹ֣ה אָמַ֣ר בְּלֶכְתּ֗וֹ בְּנִ֤י אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ בְּנִ֣י בְנִ֣י אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם מִֽי יִתֵּ֤ן מוּתִי֙ אֲנִ֣י תַחְתֶּ֔יךָ אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם בְּנִ֥י בְנִֽי

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for you, O Absalom, my son, my son!

וַיֻּגַּ֖ד לְיוֹאָ֑ב הִנֵּ֨ה הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ בֹּכֶ֛ה וַיִּתְאַבֵּ֖ל עַל אַבְשָׁלֹֽם

And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.

וַתְּהִ֨י הַתְּשֻׁעָ֜ה בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֛וּא לְאֵ֖בֶל לְכָל הָעָ֑ם כִּֽי שָׁמַ֣ע הָעָ֗ם בַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר נֶעֱצַ֥ב הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ עַל בְּנֽוֹ

And the victory that day was into mourning to all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.

וַיִּתְגַּנֵּ֥ב הָעָ֛ם בַּיּ֥וֹם הַה֖וּא לָב֣וֹא הָעִ֑יר כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יִתְגַּנֵּ֗ב הָעָם֙ הַנִּכְלָמִ֔ים בְּנוּסָ֖ם בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה

And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people being ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

וְהַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ לָאַ֣ט אֶת פָּנָ֔יו וַיִּזְעַ֥ק הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ ק֣וֹל גָּד֑וֹל בְּנִי֙ אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם בְּנִ֥י בְנִֽי

But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!

וַיָּבֹ֥א יוֹאָ֛ב אֶל הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ הַבָּ֑יִת וַיֹּאמֶר֩ הֹבַ֨שְׁתָּ הַיּ֜וֹם אֶת פְּנֵ֣י כָל עֲבָדֶ֗יךָ הַֽמְמַלְּטִ֤ים אֶֽת נַפְשְׁךָ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם וְאֵ֨ת נֶ֤פֶשׁ בָּנֶ֨יךָ֙ וּבְנֹתֶ֔יךָ וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ נָשֶׁ֔יךָ וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ פִּלַגְשֶֽׁיךָ

And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, You have shamed this day the faces of all your servants, which this day have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines;

לְאַֽהֲבָה֙ אֶת שֹׂ֣נְאֶ֔יךָ וְלִשְׂנֹ֖א אֶת אֹהֲבֶ֑יךָ כִּ֣י הִגַּ֣דְתָּ הַיּ֗וֹם כִּ֣י אֵ֤ין לְךָ֙ שָׂרִ֣ים וַעֲבָדִ֔ים כִּ֣י יָדַ֣עְתִּי הַיּ֗וֹם כִּ֠י לא ל֣וּ אַבְשָׁל֥וֹם חַי֙ וְכֻלָּ֤נוּ הַיּוֹם֙ מֵתִ֔ים כִּי אָ֖ז יָשָׁ֥ר בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ

In that you lovest your enemies, and hatest your friends. For you have declared this day, that you regardest neither princes nor servants: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased you well.

וְעַתָּה֙ ק֣וּם צֵ֔א וְדַבֵּ֖ר עַל לֵ֣ב עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ כִּי֩ בַיהוָ֨ה נִשְׁבַּ֜עְתִּי כִּי אֵינְךָ֣ יוֹצֵ֗א אִם יָלִ֨ין אִ֤ישׁ אִתְּךָ֙ הַלַּ֔יְלָה וְרָעָ֧ה לְךָ֣ זֹ֗את מִכָּל הָרָעָה֙ אֲשֶׁר בָּ֣אָה עָלֶ֔יךָ מִנְּעֻרֶ֖יךָ עַד עָֽתָּה

Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably to your servants: for I swear by YHWH, if you go not forth, there will not tarry one with you this night: and that will be worse to you than all the evil that befell you from your youth until now.

וַיָּ֥קָם הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וַיֵּ֣שֶׁב בַּשָּׁ֑עַר וּֽלְכָל הָעָ֞ם הִגִּ֣ידוּ לֵאמֹ֗ר הִנֵּ֤ה הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ יוֹשֵׁ֣ב בַּשַּׁ֔עַר וַיָּבֹ֤א כָל הָעָם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל נָ֖ס אִ֥ישׁ לְאֹהָלָֽיו

Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told to all the people, saying, Behold, the king does sit in the gate. And all the people came before the king: for Israel had fled every man to his tent.

וַיְהִ֤י כָל הָעָם֙ נָד֔וֹן בְּכָל שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵאמֹ֑ר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ הִצִּילָ֣נוּ מִכַּ֣ף אֹיְבֵ֗ינוּ וְה֤וּא מִלְּטָ֨נוּ֙ מִכַּ֣ף פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְעַתָּ֛ה בָּרַ֥ח מִן הָאָ֖רֶץ מֵעַ֥ל אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם

And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king saved us out of the hand of our enemies, and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom.

וְאַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מָשַׁ֣חְנוּ עָלֵ֔ינוּ מֵ֖ת בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְעַתָּ֗ה לָמָ֥ה אַתֶּ֛ם מַחֲרִשִׁ֖ים לְהָשִׁ֥יב אֶת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak you not a word of bringing the king back?

וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֗ד שָׁ֠לַח אֶל צָד֨וֹק וְאֶל אֶבְיָתָ֥ר הַכֹּהֲנִים֮ לֵאמֹר֒ דַּבְּר֞וּ אֶל זִקְנֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לָ֤מָּה תִֽהְיוּ֙ אַֽחֲרֹנִ֔ים לְהָשִׁ֥יב אֶת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל בֵּית֑וֹ וּדְבַר֙ כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בָּ֥א אֶל הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל בֵּיתֽוֹ

And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, to his house.

אַחַ֣י אַתֶּ֔ם עַצְמִ֥י וּבְשָׂרִ֖י אַתֶּ֑ם וְלָ֧מָּה תִהְי֛וּ אַחֲרֹנִ֖ים לְהָשִׁ֥יב אֶת הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

You my brethren, you my bones and my flesh: wherefore then are you the last to bring back the king?

וְלַֽעֲמָשָׂא֙ תֹּֽמְר֔וּ הֲל֛וֹא עַצְמִ֥י וּבְשָׂרִ֖י אָ֑תָּה כֹּ֣ה יַֽעֲשֶׂה לִּ֤י אֱלֹהִים֙ וְכֹ֣ה יוֹסִ֔יף אִם לֹ֠א שַׂר צָבָ֞א תִּהְיֶ֧ה לְפָנַ֛י כָּל הַיָּמִ֖ים תַּ֥חַת יוֹאָֽב

And say you to Amasa, you not of my bone, and of my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.

וַיַּ֛ט אֶת לְבַ֥ב כָּל אִישׁ יְהוּדָ֖ה כְּאִ֣ישׁ אֶחָ֑ד וַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ אֶל הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ שׁ֥וּב אַתָּ֖ה וְכָל עֲבָדֶֽיךָ

And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as one man; so that they sent to the king, Return you, and all your servants.

וַיָּ֣שָׁב הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיָּבֹ֖א עַד הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן וִיהוּדָ֞ה בָּ֣א הַגִּלְגָּ֗לָה לָלֶ֨כֶת֙ לִקְרַ֣את הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לְהַעֲבִ֥יר אֶת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּֽן

So the king returned, and came to Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to conduct the king over Jordan.

וַיְמַהֵ֗ר שִׁמְעִ֤י בֶן גֵּרָא֙ בֶּן הַיְמִינִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֖ר מִבַּֽחוּרִ֑ים וַיֵּ֨רֶד֙ עִם אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה לִקְרַ֖את הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ דָּוִֽד

And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, which of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

וְאֶ֨לֶף אִ֣ישׁ עִמּוֹ֮ מִבִּנְיָמִן֒ וְצִיבָ֗א נַ֚עַר בֵּ֣ית שָׁא֔וּל וַחֲמֵ֨שֶׁת עָשָׂ֥ר בָּנָ֛יו וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים עֲבָדָ֖יו אִתּ֑וֹ וְצָלְח֥וּ הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

And a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over Jordan before the king.

וְעָבְרָ֣ה הָעֲבָרָ֗ה לַֽעֲבִיר֙ אֶת בֵּ֣ית הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְלַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הַטּ֖וֹב בעינו בְּעֵינָ֑יו וְשִׁמְעִ֣י בֶן גֵּרָ֗א נָפַל֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ בְּעָבְר֖וֹ בַּיַּרְדֵּֽן

And there went over a ferry boat to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, as he was come over Jordan;

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ אַל יַחֲשָׁב לִ֣י אֲדֹנִי֮ עָוֺן֒ וְאַל תִּזְכֹּ֗ר אֵ֚ת אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶעֱוָ֣ה עַבְדְּךָ֔ בַּיּ֕וֹם אֲשֶׁר יָׄצָ֥ׄאׄ אֲדֹנִֽי הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ מִירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם לָשׂ֥וּם הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל לִבּֽוֹ

And said to the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity to me, neither do you remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

כִּ֚י יָדַ֣ע עַבְדְּךָ֔ כִּ֖י אֲנִ֣י חָטָ֑אתִי וְהִנֵּֽה בָ֣אתִי הַיּ֗וֹם רִאשׁוֹן֙ לְכָל בֵּ֣ית יוֹסֵ֔ף לָרֶ֕דֶת לִקְרַ֖את אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

For your servant does know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come the first this day of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.

וַיַּ֨עַן אֲבִישַׁ֤י בֶּן צְרוּיָה֙ וַיֹּ֔אמֶר הֲתַ֣חַת זֹ֔את לֹ֥א יוּמַ֖ת שִׁמְעִ֑י כִּ֥י קִלֵּ֖ל אֶת מְשִׁ֥יחַ יְהוָֽה

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed YHWH's anointed?

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֗ד מַה לִּ֤י וְלָכֶם֙ בְּנֵ֣י צְרוּיָ֔ה כִּי תִֽהְיוּ לִ֥י הַיּ֖וֹם לְשָׂטָ֑ן הַיּ֗וֹם י֤וּמַת אִישׁ֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֚י הֲל֣וֹא יָדַ֔עְתִּי כִּ֥י הַיּ֖וֹם אֲנִי מֶ֥לֶךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And David said, What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be adversaries to me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I this day king over Israel?

וַיֹּ֧אמֶר הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אֶל שִׁמְעִ֖י לֹ֣א תָמ֑וּת וַיִּשָּׁ֥בַֽע ל֖וֹ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

Therefore the king said to Shimei, You shall not die. And the king sware to him.

וּמְפִבֹ֨שֶׁת֙ בֶּן שָׁא֔וּל יָרַ֖ד לִקְרַ֣את הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְלֹא עָשָׂ֨ה רַגְלָ֜יו וְלֹא עָשָׂ֣ה שְׂפָמ֗וֹ וְאֶת בְּגָדָיו֙ לֹ֣א כִבֵּ֔ס לְמִן הַיּוֹם֙ לֶ֣כֶת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ עַד הַיּ֖וֹם אֲשֶׁר בָּ֥א בְשָׁלֽוֹם

And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came in peace.

וַיְהִ֛י כִּי בָ֥א יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם לִקְרַ֣את הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לָ֛מָּה לֹא הָלַ֥כְתָּ עִמִּ֖י מְפִיבֹֽשֶׁת

And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, Wherefore wentest not you with me, Mephibosheth?

וַיֹּאמַ֕ר אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ עַבְדִּ֣י רִמָּ֑נִי כִּֽי אָמַ֨ר עַבְדְּךָ֜ אֶחְבְּשָׁה לִּי֩ הַחֲמ֨וֹר וְאֶרְכַּ֤ב עָלֶ֨יהָ֙ וְאֵלֵ֣ךְ אֶת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ כִּ֥י פִסֵּ֖חַ עַבְדֶּֽךָ

And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for your servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because your servant lame.

וַיְרַגֵּ֣ל בְּעַבְדְּךָ֔ אֶל אֲדֹנִ֖י הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַאדֹנִ֤י הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ כְּמַלְאַ֣ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים וַעֲשֵׂ֥ה הַטּ֖וֹב בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ

And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king as an angel of God: do therefore good in your eyes.

כִּי֩ לֹ֨א הָיָ֜ה כָּל בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֗י כִּ֤י אִם אַנְשֵׁי מָ֨וֶת֙ לַאדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַתָּ֨שֶׁת֙ אֶֽת עַבְדְּךָ֔ בְּאֹכְלֵ֖י שֻׁלְחָנֶ֑ךָ וּמַה יֶּשׁ לִ֥י עוֹד֙ צְדָקָ֔ה וְלִזְעֹ֥ק ע֖וֹד אֶל הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet didst you set your servant among them that did eat at your own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more to the king?

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר לוֹ֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ לָ֛מָּה תְּדַבֵּ֥ר ע֖וֹד דְּבָרֶ֑יךָ אָמַ֕רְתִּי אַתָּ֣ה וְצִיבָ֔א תַּחְלְק֖וּ אֶת הַשָּׂדֶֽה

And the king said to him, Why speakest you any more of your matters? I have said, You and Ziba divide the land.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מְפִיבֹ֨שֶׁת֙ אֶל הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ גַּ֥ם אֶת הַכֹּ֖ל יִקָּ֑ח אַ֠חֲרֵי אֲשֶׁר בָּ֞א אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֛לֶך בְּשָׁל֖וֹם אֶל בֵּיתֽוֹ

And Mephibosheth said to the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace to his own house.

וּבַרְזִלַּי֙ הַגִּלְעָדִ֔י יָרַ֖ד מֵרֹגְלִ֑ים וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ר אֶת הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן לְשַׁלְּח֖וֹ אֶת בירדן הַיַּרְדֵּֽן

And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan.

וּבַרְזִלַּי֙ זָקֵ֣ן מְאֹ֔ד בֶּן שְׁמֹנִ֖ים שָׁנָ֑ה וְהֽוּא כִלְכַּ֤ל אֶת הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ בְּשִׁיבָת֣וֹ בְמַחֲנַ֔יִם כִּֽי אִ֛ישׁ גָּד֥וֹל ה֖וּא מְאֹֽד

Now Barzillai was a very aged man, fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he a very great man.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל בַּרְזִלָּ֑י אַתָּה֙ עֲבֹ֣ר אִתִּ֔י וְכִלְכַּלְתִּ֥י אֹתְךָ֛ עִמָּדִ֖י בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם

And the king said to Barzillai, Come you over with me, and I will feed you with me in Jerusalem.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר בַּרְזִלַּ֖י אֶל הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ כַּמָּ֗ה יְמֵי֙ שְׁנֵ֣י חַיַּ֔י כִּי אֶעֱלֶ֥ה אֶת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם

And Barzillai said to the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

בֶּן שְׁמֹנִ֣ים שָׁנָה֩ אָנֹכִ֨י הַיּ֜וֹם הַאֵדַ֣ע בֵּין ט֣וֹב לְרָ֗ע אִם יִטְעַ֤ם עַבְדְּךָ֙ אֶת אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֹכַל֙ וְאֶת אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶשְׁתֶּ֔ה אִם אֶשְׁמַ֣ע ע֔וֹד בְּק֖וֹל שָׁרִ֣ים וְשָׁר֑וֹת וְלָמָּה֩ יִֽהְיֶ֨ה עַבְדְּךָ֥ עוֹד֙ לְמַשָּׂ֔א אֶל אֲדֹנִ֖י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

I this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and evil? can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?

כִּמְעַ֞ט יַעֲבֹ֧ר עַבְדְּךָ֛ אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן אֶת הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וְלָ֨מָּה֙ יִגְמְלֵ֣נִי הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ הַגְּמוּלָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת

Your servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?

יָֽשָׁב נָ֤א עַבְדְּךָ֙ וְאָמֻ֣ת בְּעִירִ֔י עִ֛ם קֶ֥בֶר אָבִ֖י וְאִמִּ֑י וְהִנֵּ֣ה עַבְדְּךָ֣ כִמְהָ֗ם יַֽעֲבֹר֙ עִם אֲדֹנִ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַעֲשֵׂה ל֕וֹ אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר ט֖וֹב בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ

Let your servant, I pray you, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ אִתִּי֙ יַעֲבֹ֣ר כִּמְהָ֔ם וַאֲנִי֙ אֶעֱשֶׂה לּ֔וֹ אֶת הַטּ֖וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ וְכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר תִּבְחַ֥ר עָלַ֖י אֶֽעֱשֶׂה לָּֽךְ

And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you: and whatsoever you shall require of me, will I do for you.

וַיַּעֲבֹ֧ר כָּל הָעָ֛ם אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּ֖ן וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ עָבָ֑ר וַיִּשַּׁ֨ק הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ לְבַרְזִלַּי֙ וַיְבָ֣רֲכֵ֔הוּ וַיָּ֖שָׁב לִמְקֹמֽוֹ

And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ר הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ הַגִּלְגָּ֔לָה וְכִמְהָ֖ן עָבַ֣ר עִמּ֑וֹ וְכָל עַ֤ם יְהוּדָה֙ ויעברו הֶעֱבִ֣ירוּ אֶת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וְגַ֕ם חֲצִ֖י עַ֥ם יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

Then the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him: and all the people of Judah conducted the king, and also half the people of Israel.

וְהִנֵּ֛ה כָּל אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּאִ֣ים אֶל הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֶל הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ מַדּוּעַ֩ גְּנָב֨וּךָ אַחֵ֜ינוּ אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֗ה וַיַּעֲבִ֨רוּ אֶת הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ וְאֶת בֵּיתוֹ֙ אֶת הַיַּרְדֵּ֔ן וְכָל אַנְשֵׁ֥י דָוִ֖ד עִמּֽוֹ

And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen you away, and have brought the king, and his household, and all David's men with him, over Jordan?

וַיַּעַן֩ כָּל אִ֨ישׁ יְהוּדָ֜ה עַל אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כִּֽי קָר֤וֹב הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֵלַ֔י וְלָ֤מָּה זֶּה֙ חָרָ֣ה לְךָ֔ עַל הַדָּבָ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה הֶאָכ֤וֹל אָכַ֨לְנוּ֙ מִן הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אִם נִשֵּׂ֥את נִשָּׂ֖א לָֽנוּ

And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king near of kin to us: wherefore then be you angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's ? or has he given us any gift?

וַיַּ֣עַן אִֽישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֩ אֶת אִ֨ישׁ יְהוּדָ֜ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר עֶֽשֶׂר יָד֨וֹת לִ֣י בַמֶּלֶךְ֮ וְגַם בְּדָוִד֮ אֲנִ֣י מִמְּךָ֒ וּמַדּ֨וּעַ֙ הֱקִלֹּתַ֔נִי וְלֹא הָיָ֨ה דְבָרִ֥י רִאשׁ֛וֹן לִ֖י לְהָשִׁ֣יב אֶת מַלְכִּ֑י וַיִּ֨קֶשׁ֙ דְּבַר אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה מִדְּבַ֖ר אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more in David than you: why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
