The First Book of Chronicles, Chapter 17דברי הימים א 17

וַיְהִ֕י כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר יָשַׁ֥ב דָּוִ֖יד בְּבֵית֑וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜יד אֶל נָתָ֣ן הַנָּבִ֗יא הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֤י יוֹשֵׁב֙ בְּבֵ֣ית הָֽאֲרָזִ֔ים וַאֲר֥וֹן בְּרִית יְהוָ֖ה תַּ֥חַת יְרִיעֽוֹת

Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of YHWH under curtains.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר נָתָן֙ אֶל דָּוִ֔יד כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּֽלְבָבְךָ֖ עֲשֵׂ֑ה כִּ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים עִמָּֽךְ

Then Nathan said to David, Do all that in your heart; for God with you.

וַֽיְהִ֖י בַּלַּ֣יְלָה הַה֑וּא וַיְהִי֙ דְּבַר אֱלֹהִ֔ים אֶל נָתָ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

לֵ֤ךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ֙ אֶל דָּוִ֣יד עַבְדִּ֔י כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֑ה לֹ֥א אַתָּ֛ה תִּבְנֶה לִּ֥י הַבַּ֖יִת לָשָֽׁבֶת

Go and tell David my servant, Thus says YHWH, You shall not build me an house to dwell in:

כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָשַׁ֨בְתִּי֙ בְּבַ֔יִת מִן הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֤ר הֶעֱלֵ֨יתִי֙ אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וָֽאֶהְיֶ֛ה מֵאֹ֥הֶל אֶל אֹ֖הֶל וּמִמִּשְׁכָּֽן

For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel to this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from tabernacle .

בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר הִתְהַלַּכְתִּי֮ בְּכָל יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ הֲדָבָ֣ר דִּבַּ֗רְתִּי אֶת אַחַד֙ שֹׁפְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֛יתִי לִרְע֥וֹת אֶת עַמִּ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר לָ֛מָּה לֹא בְנִיתֶ֥ם לִ֖י בֵּ֥ית אֲרָזִֽים

Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have you not built me an house of cedars?

וְ֠עַתָּה כֹּֽה תֹאמַ֞ר לְעַבְדִּ֣י לְדָוִ֗יד כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת אֲנִ֤י לְקַחְתִּ֨יךָ֙ מִן הַנָּוֶ֔ה מִֽן אַחֲרֵ֖י הַצֹּ֑אן לִהְי֣וֹת נָגִ֔יד עַ֖ל עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

Now therefore thus shall you say to my servant David, Thus says YHWH of hosts, I took you from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that you shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:

וָֽאֶהְיֶ֣ה עִמְּךָ֗ בְּכֹל֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָלַ֔כְתָּ וָאַכְרִ֥ית אֶת כָּל אוֹיְבֶ֖יךָ מִפָּנֶ֑יךָ וְעָשִׂ֤יתִֽי לְךָ֙ שֵׁ֔ם כְּשֵׁ֥ם הַגְּדוֹלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּאָֽרֶץ

And I have been with you whithersoever you have walked, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a name like the name of the great men that in the earth.

וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י מָ֠קוֹם לְעַמִּ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל וּנְטַעְתִּ֨יהוּ֙ וְשָׁכַ֣ן תַּחְתָּ֔יו וְלֹ֥א יִרְגַּ֖ז ע֑וֹד וְלֹא יוֹסִ֤יפוּ בְנֵי עַוְלָה֙ לְבַלֹּת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר בָּרִאשׁוֹנָֽה

Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

וּלְמִיָּמִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוִּ֤יתִי שֹֽׁפְטִים֙ עַל עַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְהִכְנַ֖עְתִּי אֶת כָּל אוֹיְבֶ֑יךָ וָאַגִּ֣ד לָ֔ךְ וּבַ֖יִת יִֽבְנֶה לְּךָ֥ יְהוָֽה

And since the time that I commanded judges over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all your enemies. Furthermore I tell you that YHWH will build you an house.

וְהָיָ֗ה כִּֽי מָלְא֤וּ יָמֶ֨יךָ֙ לָלֶ֣כֶת עִם אֲבֹתֶ֔יךָ וַהֲקִֽימוֹתִ֤י אֶֽת זַרְעֲךָ֙ אַחֲרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִהְיֶ֖ה מִבָּנֶ֑יךָ וַהֲכִינוֹתִ֖י אֶת מַלְכוּתֽוֹ

And it shall come to pass, when your days be expired that you must go with your fathers, that I will raise up your seed after you, which shall be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

ה֥וּא יִבְנֶה לִּ֖י בָּ֑יִת וְכֹנַנְתִּ֥י אֶת כִּסְא֖וֹ עַד עוֹלָֽם

He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

אֲנִי֙ אֶֽהְיֶה לּ֣וֹ לְאָ֔ב וְה֖וּא יִֽהְיֶה לִּ֣י לְבֵ֑ן וְחַסְדִּי֙ לֹא אָסִ֣יר מֵֽעִמּ֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר הֲסִיר֔וֹתִי מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה לְפָנֶֽיךָ

I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took from that was before you:

וְהַֽעֲמַדְתִּ֛יהוּ בְּבֵיתִ֥י וּבְמַלְכוּתִ֖י עַד הָעוֹלָ֑ם וְכִסְא֕וֹ יִהְיֶ֥ה נָכ֖וֹן עַד עוֹלָֽם

But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

כְּכֹל֙ הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה וּכְכֹ֖ל הֶחָז֣וֹן הַזֶּ֑ה כֵּ֛ן דִּבֶּ֥ר נָתָ֖ן אֶל דָּוִֽיד

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

וַיָּבֹא֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֔יד וַיֵּ֖שֶׁב לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מִֽי אֲנִ֞י יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהִים֙ וּמִ֣י בֵיתִ֔י כִּ֥י הֲבִיאֹתַ֖נִי עַד הֲלֹֽם

And David the king came and sat before YHWH, and said, Who I, O YHWH God, and what mine house, that you have brought me hitherto?

וַתִּקְטַ֨ן זֹ֤את בְּעֵינֶ֨יךָ֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר עַל בֵּֽית עַבְדְּךָ֖ לְמֵרָח֑וֹק וּרְאִיתַ֗נִי כְּת֧וֹר הָאָדָ֛ם הַֽמַּעֲלָ֖ה יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִֽים

And this was a small thing in your eyes, O God; for you have spoken of your servant's house for a great while to come, and have regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O YHWH God.

מַה יּוֹסִ֨יף ע֥וֹד דָּוִ֛יד אֵלֶ֖יךָ לְכָב֣וֹד אֶת עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ וְאַתָּ֖ה אֶֽת עַבְדְּךָ֥ יָדָֽעְתָּ

What can David more to you for the honour of your servant? for you knowest your servant.

יְהוָ֕ה בַּעֲב֤וּר עַבְדְּךָ֙ וּֽכְלִבְּךָ֔ עָשִׂ֕יתָ אֵ֥ת כָּל הַגְּדוּלָּ֖ה הַזֹּ֑את לְהֹדִ֖יעַ אֶת כָּל הַגְּדֻלּֽוֹת

O YHWH, for your servant's sake, and according to your own heart, have you done all this greatness, in making known all great things.

יְהוָה֙ אֵ֣ין כָּמ֔וֹךָ וְאֵ֥ין אֱלֹהִ֖ים זוּלָתֶ֑ךָ בְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ בְּאָזְנֵֽינוּ

O YHWH, none like you, neither God beside you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

וּמִי֙ כְּעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל גּ֥וֹי אֶחָ֖ד בָּאָ֑רֶץ אֲשֶׁר֩ הָלַ֨ךְ הָאֱלֹהִ֜ים לִפְדּ֧וֹת ל֣וֹ עָ֗ם לָשׂ֤וּם לְךָ֙ שֵׁ֚ם גְּדֻלּ֣וֹת וְנֹרָא֔וֹת לְגָרֵ֗שׁ מִפְּנֵ֧י עַמְּךָ֛ אֲשֶׁר פָּדִ֥יתָ מִמִּצְרַ֖יִם גּוֹיִֽם

And what one nation in the earth like your people Israel, whom God went to redeem his own people, to make you a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before your people, whom you have redeemed out of Egypt?

וַ֠תִּתֵּן אֶת עַמְּךָ֨ יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל לְךָ֛ לְעָ֖ם עַד עוֹלָ֑ם וְאַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הָיִ֥יתָ לָהֶ֖ם לֵאלֹהִֽים

For your people Israel didst you make your own people for ever; and you, YHWH, becamest their God.

וְעַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הַדָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבַּ֤רְתָּ עַֽל עַבְדְּךָ֙ וְעַל בֵּית֔וֹ יֵאָמֵ֖ן עַד עוֹלָ֑ם וַעֲשֵׂ֖ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּֽרְתָּ

Therefore now, YHWH, let the thing that you have spoken concerning your servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as you have said.

וְ֠יֵֽאָמֵן וְיִגְדַּ֨ל שִׁמְךָ֤ עַד עוֹלָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר יְהוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וּבֵית דָּוִ֥יד עַבְדְּךָ֖ נָכ֥וֹן לְפָנֶֽיךָ

Let it even be established, that your name may be magnified for ever, saying, YHWH of hosts the God of Israel, a God to Israel: and the house of David your servant established before you.

כִּ֣י אַתָּ֣ה אֱלֹהַ֗י גָּלִ֨יתָ֙ אֶת אֹ֣זֶן עַבְדְּךָ֔ לִבְנ֥וֹת ל֖וֹ בָּ֑יִת עַל כֵּן֙ מָצָ֣א עַבְדְּךָ֔ לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל לְפָנֶֽיךָ

For you, O my God, have told your servant that you will build him an house: therefore your servant has found to pray before you.

וְעַתָּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה אַתָּה ה֖וּא הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַתְּדַבֵּר֙ עַֽל עַבְדְּךָ֔ הַטּוֹבָ֖ה הַזֹּֽאת

And now, YHWH, you are God, and have promised this goodness to your servant:

וְעַתָּ֗ה הוֹאַ֨לְתָּ֙ לְבָרֵךְ֙ אֶת בֵּ֣ית עַבְדְּךָ֔ לִהְי֥וֹת לְעוֹלָ֖ם לְפָנֶ֑יךָ כִּֽי אַתָּ֤ה יְהוָה֙ בֵּרַ֔כְתָּ וּמְבֹרָ֖ךְ לְעוֹלָֽם

Now therefore let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may be before you for ever: for you blessest, O YHWH, and blessed for ever.
