The Book of Nehemiah, Chapter 4נחמיה 4

וַיְהִ֣י כַאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֣ע סַנְבַלַּ֡ט וְ֠טוֹבִיָּה וְהָעַרְבִ֨ים וְהָעַמֹּנִ֜ים וְהָאַשְׁדּוֹדִ֗ים כִּֽי עָלְתָ֤ה אֲרוּכָה֙ לְחֹמ֣וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם כִּי הֵחֵ֥לּוּ הַפְּרֻצִ֖ים לְהִסָּתֵ֑ם וַיִּ֥חַר לָהֶ֖ם מְאֹֽד

And it happened just as listen Sanballat Tobiah Arabian but the Ammonites and the Ashdodite for it came up and the city-wall Jerusalem for began he break out stopped them up and it burned to them very.

וַיִּקְשְׁר֤וּ כֻלָּם֙ יַחְדָּ֔ו לָב֖וֹא לְהִלָּחֵ֣ם בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְלַעֲשׂ֥וֹת ל֖וֹ תּוֹעָֽה

And you shall bind all of them together to enter to fight in Jerusalem and to do to him error.

וַנִּתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ וַנַּעֲמִ֨יד מִשְׁמָ֧ר עֲלֵיהֶ֛ם יוֹמָ֥ם וָלַ֖יְלָה מִפְּנֵיהֶֽם

And he prayed to our God standing custody upon them by day and night from before them.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוּדָ֗ה כָּשַׁל֙ כֹּ֣חַ הַסַּבָּ֔ל וְהֶעָפָ֖ר הַרְבֵּ֑ה וַאֲנַ֨חְנוּ֙ לֹ֣א נוּכַ֔ל לִבְנ֖וֹת בַּחוֹמָֽה

And he said Judah and they shall stumble power (to bear dust greatly and we not we are able to build the city-wall.

וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ צָרֵ֗ינוּ לֹ֤א יֵדְעוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִרְא֔וּ עַ֛ד אֲשֶׁר נָב֥וֹא אֶל תּוֹכָ֖ם וַהֲרַגְנ֑וּם וְהִשְׁבַּ֖תְנוּ אֶת הַמְּלָאכָֽה

And they said narrow not have known and not shall they appear until that we come to in the midst of they killed you shall rest the work.

וַֽיְהִי֙ כַּאֲשֶׁר בָּ֣אוּ הַיְּהוּדִ֔ים הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים אֶצְלָ֑ם וַיֹּ֤אמְרוּ לָ֨נוּ֙ עֶ֣שֶׂר פְּעָמִ֔ים מִכָּל הַמְּקֹמ֖וֹת אֲשֶׁר תָּשׁ֥וּבוּ עָלֵֽינוּ

And it happened just as came Jew who dwell beside and they said to us ten times from all the places that you turn back upon us.

וָֽאַעֲמִ֞יד מִֽתַּחְתִּיּ֧וֹת לַמָּק֛וֹם מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י לַחוֹמָ֖ה בצחחיים בַּצְּחִיחִ֑ים וָֽאַעֲמִ֤יד אֶת הָעָם֙ לְמִשְׁפָּח֔וֹת עִם חַרְבֹתֵיהֶ֛ם רָמְחֵיהֶ֖ם וְקַשְּׁתֹתֵיהֶֽם

Standing lowest the place from following the city-wall in higher place standing the people for the clans of with the sword and a spear a bow.

וָאֵ֣רֶא וָאָק֗וּם וָאֹמַ֞ר אֶל הַחֹרִ֤ים וְאֶל הַסְּגָנִים֙ וְאֶל יֶ֣תֶר הָעָ֔ם אַל תִּֽירְא֖וּ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם אֶת אֲדֹנָ֞י הַגָּד֤וֹל וְהַנּוֹרָא֙ זְכֹ֔רוּ וְהִֽלָּחֲמ֗וּ עַל אֲחֵיכֶם֙ בְּנֵיכֶ֣ם וּבְנֹתֵיכֶ֔ם נְשֵׁיכֶ֖ם וּבָתֵּיכֶֽם

And I saw and he arose and I said to noble and to prince and to the remainder of the people do not fear from before them my Lord the great and the terrible/fearsome and you shall remember to fight on your brother your children and your daughters your wives and your households.

וַיְהִ֞י כַּֽאֲשֶׁר שָׁמְע֤וּ אוֹיְבֵ֨ינוּ֙ כִּי נ֣וֹדַֽע לָ֔נוּ וַיָּ֥פֶר הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶת עֲצָתָ֑ם ונשוב וַנָּ֤שָׁב כֻּלָּ֨נוּ֙ אֶל הַ֣חוֹמָ֔ה אִ֖ישׁ אֶל מְלַאכְתּֽוֹ

And it happened just as his hearing your enemies for it is known to us he has broken God counsel and he returned and we have returned it all of us to the city-wall a man to his work.

וַיְהִ֣י מִן הַיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא חֲצִ֣י נְעָרַי֮ עֹשִׂ֣ים בַּמְּלָאכָה֒ וְחֶצְיָ֗ם מַחֲזִיקִים֙ וְהָרְמָחִ֣ים הַמָּגִנִּ֔ים וְהַקְּשָׁת֖וֹת וְהַשִּׁרְיֹנִ֑ים וְהַ֨שָּׂרִ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֖י כָּל בֵּ֥ית יְהוּדָֽה

And it happened from today that half of the young men of are doing work and half of be strong and a spear the shield of a bow breastplate chief of after all the house of Judah.

הַבּוֹנִ֧ים בַּחוֹמָ֛ה וְהַנֹּשְׂאִ֥ים בַּסֶּ֖בֶל עֹמְשִׂ֑ים בְּאַחַ֤ת יָדוֹ֙ עֹשֶׂ֣ה בַמְּלָאכָ֔ה וְאַחַ֖ת מַחֲזֶ֥קֶת הַשָּֽׁלַח

And he built the city-wall lifts up burden and each loaded concerning one of his hand he did work one be strong dart.

וְהַ֨בּוֹנִ֔ים אִ֥ישׁ חַרְבּ֛וֹ אֲסוּרִ֥ים עַל מָתְנָ֖יו וּבוֹנִ֑ים וְהַתּוֹקֵ֥עַ בַּשּׁוֹפָ֖ר אֶצְלִֽי

And he built a man his sword are confined on the loins of and he built and they blew the trumpet beside me.

וָאֹמַ֞ר אֶל הַחֹרִ֤ים וְאֶל הַסְּגָנִים֙ וְאֶל יֶ֣תֶר הָעָ֔ם הַמְּלָאכָ֥ה הַרְבֵּ֖ה וּרְחָבָ֑ה וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ נִפְרָדִים֙ עַל הַ֣חוֹמָ֔ה רְחוֹקִ֖ים אִ֥ישׁ מֵאָחִֽיו

And I said to noble and to prince and to the remainder of the people the work greatly and spacious and we were separated on the city-wall far a man above his brothers.

בִּמְק֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ אֶת ק֣וֹל הַשּׁוֹפָ֔ר שָׁ֖מָּה תִּקָּבְצ֣וּ אֵלֵ֑ינוּ אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יִלָּ֥חֶם לָֽנוּ

In the place that you listen/obey the sound of the trumpet there and he gathered to us our God will fight to us.

וַאֲנַ֖חְנוּ עֹשִׂ֣ים בַּמְּלָאכָ֑ה וְחֶצְיָ֗ם מַחֲזִיקִים֙ בָּֽרְמָחִ֔ים מֵעֲל֣וֹת הַשַּׁ֔חַר עַ֖ד צֵ֥את הַכּוֹכָבִֽים

And we are doing work and half of be strong and a spear and he went up the dawn until going out of the stars.

גַּ֣ם בָּעֵ֤ת הַהִיא֙ אָמַ֣רְתִּי לָעָ֔ם אִ֣ישׁ וְנַעֲר֔וֹ יָלִ֖ינוּ בְּת֣וֹךְ יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְהָֽיוּ לָ֧נוּ הַלַּ֛יְלָה מִשְׁמָ֖ר וְהַיּ֥וֹם מְלָאכָֽה

Also at the time that I said as a people a man the boy and they lodged in the midst of Jerusalem and they shall be to us the night custody days work.

וְאֵ֨ין אֲנִ֜י וְאַחַ֣י וּנְעָרַ֗י וְאַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמִּשְׁמָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אַחֲרַ֔י אֵין אֲנַ֥חְנוּ פֹשְׁטִ֖ים בְּגָדֵ֑ינוּ אִ֖ישׁ שִׁלְח֥וֹ הַמָּֽיִם

And there is no I and brother of the boy and the men of in custody that after there is not we and he shall take off his garments a man dart the waters.
