The First Book of Kings, Chapter 22מלכים א 22

וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים אֵ֚ין מִלְחָמָ֔ה בֵּ֥ין אֲרָ֖ם וּבֵ֥ין יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel.

וַיְהִ֖י בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑ית וַיֵּ֛רֶד יְהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָ֖ה אֶל מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֶל עֲבָדָ֔יו הַיְדַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּֽי לָ֖נוּ רָמֹ֣ת גִּלְעָ֑ד וַאֲנַ֣חְנוּ מַחְשִׁ֔ים מִקַּ֣חַת אֹתָ֔הּ מִיַּ֖ד מֶ֥לֶךְ אֲרָֽם

And the king of Israel said to his servants, Know you that Ramoth in Gilead ours, and we still, take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria?

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אֶל יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט הֲתֵלֵ֥ךְ אִתִּ֛י לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה רָמֹ֣ת גִּלְעָ֑ד וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כָּמ֧וֹנִי כָמ֛וֹךָ כְּעַמִּ֥י כְעַמֶּ֖ךָ כְּסוּסַ֥י כְּסוּסֶֽיךָ

And he said to Jehoshaphat, Wilt you go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I as you , my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל דְּרָשׁ נָ֥א כַיּ֖וֹם אֶת דְּבַ֥ר יְהוָֽה

And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray you, at the word of YHWH to day.

וַיִּקְבֹּ֨ץ מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל אֶֽת הַנְּבִיאִים֮ כְּאַרְבַּ֣ע מֵא֣וֹת אִישׁ֒ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם הַאֵלֵ֞ךְ עַל רָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָ֛ד לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה אִם אֶחְדָּ֑ל וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ עֲלֵ֔ה וְיִתֵּ֥ן אֲדֹנָ֖י בְּיַ֥ד הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for YHWH shall deliver into the hand of the king.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט הַאֵ֨ין פֹּ֥ה נָבִ֛יא לַיהוָ֖ה ע֑וֹד וְנִדְרְשָׁ֖ה מֵאוֹתֽוֹ

And Jehoshaphat said, not here a prophet of YHWH besides, that we might enquire of him?

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל אֶֽל יְהוֹשָׁפָ֡ט ע֣וֹד אִישׁ אֶחָ֡ד לִדְרֹשׁ֩ אֶת יְהוָ֨ה מֵאֹת֜וֹ וַאֲנִ֣י שְׂנֵאתִ֗יו כִּ֠י לֹֽא יִתְנַבֵּ֨א עָלַ֥י טוֹב֙ כִּ֣י אִם רָ֔ע מִיכָ֖יְהוּ בֶּן יִמְלָ֑ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט אַל יֹאמַ֥ר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ כֵּֽן

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of YHWH: but I hate him; for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

וַיִּקְרָא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֶל סָרִ֖יס אֶחָ֑ד וַיֹּ֕אמֶר מַהֲרָ֖ה מִיכָ֥יְהוּ בֶן יִמְלָֽה

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Hasten Micaiah the son of Imlah.

וּמֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל וִֽיהוֹשָׁפָ֣ט מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָ֡ה יֹשְׁבִים֩ אִ֨ישׁ עַל כִּסְא֜וֹ מְלֻבָּשִׁ֤ים בְּגָדִים֙ בְּגֹ֔רֶן פֶּ֖תַח שַׁ֣עַר שֹׁמְר֑וֹן וְכָ֨ל הַנְּבִיאִ֔ים מִֽתְנַבְּאִ֖ים לִפְנֵיהֶֽם

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ ל֛וֹ צִדְקִיָּ֥ה בֶֽן כְּנַעֲנָ֖ה קַרְנֵ֣י בַרְזֶ֑ל וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ כֹּֽה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה בְּאֵ֛לֶּה תְּנַגַּ֥ח אֶת אֲרָ֖ם עַד כַּלֹּתָֽם

And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron: and he said, Thus says YHWH, With these shall you push the Syrians, until you have consumed them.

וְכָל הַנְּבִאִ֔ים נִבְּאִ֥ים כֵּ֖ן לֵאמֹ֑ר עֲלֵ֞ה רָמֹ֤ת גִּלְעָד֙ וְהַצְלַ֔ח וְנָתַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה בְּיַ֥ד הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for YHWH shall deliver into the king's hand.

וְהַמַּלְאָ֞ךְ אֲשֶׁר הָלַ֣ךְ לִקְרֹ֣א מִיכָ֗יְהוּ דִּבֶּ֤ר אֵלָיו֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הִנֵּה נָ֞א דִּבְרֵ֧י הַנְּבִיאִ֛ים פֶּֽה אֶחָ֥ד ט֖וֹב אֶל הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ יְהִֽי נָ֣א דבריך דְבָרְךָ֗ כִּדְבַ֛ר אַחַ֥ד מֵהֶ֖ם וְדִבַּ֥רְתָּ טּֽוֹב

And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets good to the king with one mouth: let your word, I pray you, be like the word of one of them, and speak good.

וַיֹּ֖אמֶר מִיכָ֑יְהוּ חַי יְהוָ֕ה כִּ֠י אֶת אֲשֶׁ֨ר יֹאמַ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה אֵלַ֖י אֹת֥וֹ אֲדַבֵּֽר

And Micaiah said, YHWH liveth, what YHWH says to me, that will I speak.

וַיָּבוֹא֮ אֶל הַמֶּלֶךְ֒ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֵלָ֗יו מִיכָ֨יְהוּ֙ הֲנֵלֵ֞ךְ אֶל רָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָ֛ד לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה אִם נֶחְדָּ֑ל וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ עֲלֵ֣ה וְהַצְלַ֔ח וְנָתַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה בְּיַ֥ד הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

So he came to the king. And the king said to him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper: for YHWH shall deliver into the hand of the king.

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָיו֙ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ עַד כַּמֶּ֥ה פְעָמִ֖ים אֲנִ֣י מַשְׁבִּעֶ֑ךָ אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא תְדַבֵּ֥ר אֵלַ֛י רַק אֱמֶ֖ת בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָֽה

And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you that you tell me nothing but true in the name of YHWH?

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר רָאִ֤יתִי אֶת כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נְפֹצִ֣ים אֶל הֶהָרִ֔ים כַּצֹּ֕אן אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֵין לָהֶ֖ם רֹעֶ֑ה וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ לֹֽא אֲדֹנִ֣ים לָאֵ֔לֶּה יָשׁ֥וּבוּ אִישׁ לְבֵית֖וֹ בְּשָׁלֽוֹם

And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd: and YHWH said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶל יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט הֲלוֹא֙ אָמַ֣רְתִּי אֵלֶ֔יךָ לֽוֹא יִתְנַבֵּ֥א עָלַ֛י ט֖וֹב כִּ֥י אִם רָֽע

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell you that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לָכֵ֖ן שְׁמַ֣ע דְּבַר יְהוָ֑ה רָאִ֤יתִי אֶת יְהוָה֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב עַל כִּסְא֔וֹ וְכָל צְבָ֤א הַשָּׁמַ֨יִם֙ עֹמֵ֣ד עָלָ֔יו מִימִינ֖וֹ וּמִשְּׂמֹאלֽוֹ

And he said, Hear you therefore the word of YHWH: I saw YHWH sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָ֗ה מִ֤י יְפַתֶּה֙ אֶת אַחְאָ֔ב וְיַ֕עַל וְיִפֹּ֖ל בְּרָמֹ֣ת גִּלְעָ֑ד וַיֹּ֤אמֶר זֶה֙ בְּכֹ֔ה וְזֶ֥ה אֹמֵ֖ר בְּכֹֽה

And YHWH said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

וַיֵּצֵ֣א הָר֗וּחַ וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר אֲנִ֣י אֲפַתֶּ֑נּוּ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהוָ֛ה אֵלָ֖יו בַּמָּֽה

And there came forth a spirit, and stood before YHWH, and said, I will persuade him.

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אֵצֵא֙ וְהָיִ֨יתִי֙ ר֣וּחַ שֶׁ֔קֶר בְּפִ֖י כָּל נְבִיאָ֑יו וַיֹּ֗אמֶר תְּפַתֶּה֙ וְגַם תּוּכָ֔ל צֵ֖א וַעֲשֵׂה כֵֽן

And YHWH said to him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall persuade , and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

וְעַתָּ֗ה הִנֵּ֨ה נָתַ֤ן יְהוָה֙ ר֣וּחַ שֶׁ֔קֶר בְּפִ֖י כָּל נְבִיאֶ֣יךָ אֵ֑לֶּה וַֽיהוָ֔ה דִּבֶּ֥ר עָלֶ֖יךָ רָעָֽה

Now therefore, behold, YHWH has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and YHWH has spoken evil concerning you.

וַיִּגַּשׁ֙ צִדְקִיָּ֣הוּ בֶֽן כְּנַעֲנָ֔ה וַיַּכֶּ֥ה אֶת מִיכָ֖יְהוּ עַל הַלֶּ֑חִי וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אֵי זֶ֨ה עָבַ֧ר רֽוּחַ יְהוָ֛ה מֵאִתִּ֖י לְדַבֵּ֥ר אוֹתָֽךְ

But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and smote Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of YHWH from me to speak to you?

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מִיכָ֔יְהוּ הִנְּךָ֥ רֹאֶ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא אֲשֶׁ֥ר תָּבֹ֛א חֶ֥דֶר בְּחֶ֖דֶר לְהֵחָבֵֽה

And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל קַ֚ח אֶת מִיכָ֔יְהוּ וַהֲשִׁיבֵ֖הוּ אֶל אָמֹ֣ן שַׂר הָעִ֑יר וְאֶל יוֹאָ֖שׁ בֶּן הַמֶּֽלֶךְ

And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;

וְאָמַרְתָּ֗ כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ שִׂ֥ימוּ אֶת זֶ֖ה בֵּ֣ית הַכֶּ֑לֶא וְהַאֲכִילֻ֨הוּ לֶ֤חֶם לַ֨חַץ֙ וּמַ֣יִם לַ֔חַץ עַ֖ד בֹּאִ֥י בְשָׁלֽוֹם

And say, Thus says the king, Put this in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר מִיכָ֔יְהוּ אִם שׁ֤וֹב תָּשׁוּב֙ בְּשָׁל֔וֹם לֹֽא דִבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בִּ֑י וַיֹּ֕אמֶר שִׁמְע֖וּ עַמִּ֥ים כֻּלָּֽם

And Micaiah said, If you return at all in peace, YHWH has not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

וַיַּ֧עַל מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל וְיהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָ֖ה רָמֹ֥ת גִּלְעָֽד

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

וַיֹּאמֶר֩ מֶ֨לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל אֶל יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט הִתְחַפֵּשׂ֙ וָבֹ֣א בַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְאַתָּ֖ה לְבַ֣שׁ בְּגָדֶ֑יךָ וַיִּתְחַפֵּשׂ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיָּב֖וֹא בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put you on your robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle.

וּמֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֡ם צִוָּ֣ה אֶת שָׂרֵי֩ הָרֶ֨כֶב אֲשֶׁר ל֜וֹ שְׁלֹשִׁ֤ים וּשְׁנַ֨יִם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹ֚א תִּלָּ֣חֲמ֔וּ אֶת קָטֹ֖ן וְאֶת גָּד֑וֹל כִּ֛י אִֽם אֶת מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְבַדּֽוֹ

But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

וַיְהִ֡י כִּרְאוֹת֩ שָׂרֵ֨י הָרֶ֜כֶב אֶת יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט וְהֵ֤מָּה אָֽמְרוּ֙ אַ֣ךְ מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל ה֔וּא וַיָּסֻ֥רוּ עָלָ֖יו לְהִלָּחֵ֑ם וַיִּזְעַ֖ק יְהוֹשָׁפָֽט

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out.

וַיְהִ֗י כִּרְאוֹת֙ שָׂרֵ֣י הָרֶ֔כֶב כִּֽי לֹא מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ה֑וּא וַיָּשׁ֖וּבוּ מֵאַחֲרָֽיו

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

וְאִ֗ישׁ מָשַׁ֤ךְ בַּקֶּ֨שֶׁת֙ לְתֻמּ֔וֹ וַיַּכֶּה֙ אֶת מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בֵּ֥ין הַדְּבָקִ֖ים וּבֵ֣ין הַשִּׁרְיָ֑ן וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לְרַכָּב֗וֹ הֲפֹ֥ךְ יָדְךָ֛ וְהוֹצִיאֵ֥נִי מִן הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה כִּ֥י הָחֳלֵֽיתִי

And a man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said to the driver of his chariot, Turn your hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

וַתַּעֲלֶ֤ה הַמִּלְחָמָה֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא וְהַמֶּ֗לֶךְ הָיָ֧ה מָעֳמָ֛ד בַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֖ה נֹ֣כַח אֲרָ֑ם וַיָּ֣מָת בָּעֶ֔רֶב וַיִּ֥צֶק דַּֽם הַמַּכָּ֖ה אֶל חֵ֥יק הָרָֽכֶב

And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot.

וַיַּעֲבֹ֤ר הָרִנָּה֙ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה כְּבֹ֥א הַשֶּׁ֖מֶשׁ לֵאמֹ֑ר אִ֥ישׁ אֶל עִיר֖וֹ וְאִ֥ישׁ אֶל אַרְצֽוֹ

And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country.

וַיָּ֣מָת הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ וַיָּב֖וֹא שֹׁמְר֑וֹן וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֶת הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ בְּשֹׁמְרֽוֹן

So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

וַיִּשְׁטֹ֨ף אֶת הָרֶ֜כֶב עַ֣ל בְּרֵכַ֣ת שֹׁמְר֗וֹן וַיָּלֹ֤קּוּ הַכְּלָבִים֙ אֶת דָּמ֔וֹ וְהַזֹּנ֖וֹת רָחָ֑צוּ כִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר

And washed the chariot in the pool of Samaria; and the dogs licked up his blood; and they washed his armour; according to the word of YHWH which he spake.

וְיֶתֶר֩ דִּבְרֵ֨י אַחְאָ֜ב וְכָל אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֗ה וּבֵ֤ית הַשֵּׁן֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנָ֔ה וְכָל הֶעָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנָ֑ה הֲלֽוֹא הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, and the ivory house which he made, and all the cities that he built, they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב אַחְאָ֖ב עִם אֲבֹתָ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ אֲחַזְיָ֥הוּ בְנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו

So Ahab slept with his fathers; and Ahaziah his son reigned in his stead.

וִיהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ בֶּן אָסָ֔א מָלַ֖ךְ עַל יְהוּדָ֑ה בִּשְׁנַ֣ת אַרְבַּ֔ע לְאַחְאָ֖ב מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.

יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט בֶּן שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים וְחָמֵ֤שׁ שָׁנָה֙ בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ וְעֶשְׂרִ֤ים וְחָמֵשׁ֙ שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔וֹ עֲזוּבָ֖ה בַּת שִׁלְחִֽי

Jehoshaphat thirty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ בְּכָל דֶּ֛רֶךְ אָסָ֥א אָבִ֖יו לֹא סָ֣ר מִמֶּ֑נּוּ לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה

And he walked in all the ways of Asa his father; he turned not aside from it, doing right in the eyes of YHWH:

אַ֥ךְ הַבָּמ֖וֹת לֹֽא סָ֑רוּ ע֥וֹד הָעָ֛ם מְזַבְּחִ֥ים וּֽמְקַטְּרִ֖ים בַּבָּמֽוֹת

Nevertheless the high places were not taken away; the people offered and burnt incense yet in the high places.

וַיַּשְׁלֵ֥ם יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט עִם מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel.

וְיֶ֨תֶר דִּבְרֵ֧י יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט וּגְבוּרָת֥וֹ אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂ֖ה וַאֲשֶׁ֣ר נִלְחָ֑ם הֲלֹֽא הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל סֵ֛פֶר דִּבְרֵ֥י הַיָּמִ֖ים לְמַלְכֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, and his might that he shewed, and how he warred, they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

וְיֶ֨תֶר֙ הַקָּדֵ֔שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁאַ֔ר בִּימֵ֖י אָסָ֣א אָבִ֑יו בִּעֵ֖ר מִן הָאָֽרֶץ

And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land.

וּמֶ֥לֶךְ אֵ֛ין בֶּאֱד֖וֹם נִצָּ֥ב מֶֽלֶךְ

then no king in Edom: a deputy king.

יְהוֹשָׁפָ֡ט עשר עָשָׂה֩ אֳנִיּ֨וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֜ישׁ לָלֶ֧כֶת אוֹפִ֛ירָה לַזָּהָ֖ב וְלֹ֣א הָלָ֑ךְ כִּֽי נשברה נִשְׁבְּר֥וּ אֳנִיּ֖וֹת בְּעֶצְי֥וֹן גָּֽבֶר

Jehoshaphat made ships of Tharshish to go to Ophir for gold: but they went not; for the ships were broken at Eziongeber.

אָ֠ז אָמַ֞ר אֲחַזְיָ֤הוּ בֶן אַחְאָב֙ אֶל יְה֣וֹשָׁפָ֔ט יֵלְכ֧וּ עֲבָדַ֛י עִם עֲבָדֶ֖יךָ בָּאֳנִיּ֑וֹת וְלֹ֥א אָבָ֖ה יְהוֹשָׁפָֽט

Then said Ahaziah the son of Ahab to Jehoshaphat, Let my servants go with your servants in the ships. But Jehoshaphat would not.

וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב יְהֽוֹשָׁפָט֙ עִם אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקָּבֵר֙ עִם אֲבֹתָ֔יו בְּעִ֖יר דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֑יו וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ יְהוֹרָ֥ם בְּנ֖וֹ תַּחְתָּֽיו

And Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.

אֲחַזְיָ֣הוּ בֶן אַחְאָ֗ב מָלַ֤ךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן בִּשְׁנַת֙ שְׁבַ֣ע עֶשְׂרֵ֔ה לִיהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ עַל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שְׁנָתָֽיִם

Ahaziah the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned two years over Israel.

וַיַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֗לֶךְ בְּדֶ֤רֶךְ אָבִיו֙ וּבְדֶ֣רֶךְ אִמּ֔וֹ וּבְדֶ֨רֶךְ֙ יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן נְבָ֔ט אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶחֱטִ֖יא אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

And he did evil in the sight of YHWH, and walked in the way of his father, and in the way of his mother, and in the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin:

וַֽיַּעֲבֹד֙ אֶת הַבַּ֔עַל וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֖ה ל֑וֹ וַיַּכְעֵ֗ס אֶת יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂ֖ה אָבִֽיו

For he served Baal, and worshipped him, and provoked to anger YHWH God of Israel, according to all that his father had done.
